Honestly, I don’t think he’s going to get sent down. He might not be on the opening night roster, but if he’s not I fully expect that he’ll be in a rotation with the other guys.

But I also never bet on things like this, because I always allow for the possibility that I’m wrong.

Betting is usually done when there is more than one possible outcome.

Live a little Tawnos.

I don't know if ADA would clear waivers. But I do know that, if claimed, him suddenly turning it around with his fourth NHL franchise would be more of the exception than the rule.

History tells us that most guys who haven't cracked a lineup as a regular player, with three organizations, before they're 23, usually don't turn around and become core players. I'm sure it happens from time to time, but I'd say ADA's odds take a serious hit if he isn't able to secure a spot in the starting lineup to begin the season and then hold onto it.

This is more or less where I’m coming from. If DeAngelo doesn’t make the roster, he’ll be viewed as more being on the same level as Chris Bigras, plus his reputation. Do we really think it’s likely Bigras will be claimed?

I dislike using Vegas as an example of anything as it seems to be way out of the norm, but they did play several players nobody really thought would be good, and yet many of them turned out to play pretty well in roles pretty much no one thought they could. I think sometimes it just takes a long term opportunity for some players to find their NHL way. It's not how things normally work, and I do think it's probably an outlier, but I do find it kind of interesting that the lack of options they had in roster construction kind of worked out in both their and the players favor.

It remains to be seen how many of those players can continue doing that, since playing with a massive chip on their shoulder made them all play better. I’m not so sure that chip is there anymore.

In agree there, but all the same they did take players that were mostly thought of to be more or less middle 6F or bottom pair defenders and they got surprisingly good seasons out of some of them.

In a way I think that is a total outlier, in another way I kind of think the old fashion having to earn it stuff may be a bit outdated since these kids have been earning it to even get drafted in the first place, which with better scouting has changed a lot over the years.

There is a massive difference in pedigree and actual production through the lower levels between the two of those guys and what ever DeAngelo has in character concerns, Bigras has with injuries.

Someone will take a chance, they always do.

Bobby Sanguinetti was traded for a 2nd + 6th when he was a bubble NHLer. AD has a better track record that Sanguinetti did at the time of his trade.

In fairness, Sanguinetti also was a two time AHL all-star and moving on him from his first franchise.

If we get to a point where a player is looking at this fourth franchise, that could impact the value a bit.

I'm curious as to how much interest there would be at this point, though obviously my preference is to have him become an important player for the Rangers.

I feel like in a world where resources are somewhat capped, there's not always that inclination to use an NHL roster spot on a reclamation project. At least not like there used to be.

There are bad teams in his league with horrible defenses that can take the risk. He’s on an entry level deal so the salary is really negligible.

If it happened, I imagine buffalo would be all over him.

McQuaid was always a Bruins favorite because he seemed to always win (and kick the poop outta who ever he fought) and also because of the nostalgia factor as he was one of the few remaining players on the cup winning team 7 years ago.

I think he can still play as a decent 3 pairing guy as long as the coach pairs him with the right guy on defense.

I don't really have much faith in ADA making the team.
It sucks but unless he really steps it up, his days are numbered IMO

Truth be told, even if he’s a slightly more useful replacement for Kampfer I’d be okay with the deal. Anything more is a bonus.

I remain hopeful, but I’m not blind to the reality of the situation either.

The makeup of this team, and the emergence of Pionk, puts him in position where he has to show something.

Yeah, I think Pionk is pretty much his competition.
Who comes out on top is anyone's guess but I'm quite impressed with the fact that Pionk didn't waste any time and spent the summer with Prentiss.
I haven't heard anything about ADA though.
Any idea if he put any work in?

Haven’t heard anything.

Though I would like to think everyone recognizes this camp as a chance to make a crucial first impression.

The Rangers are a "rebuilding' team and they so much age on D. They have Staal, Smith and Shattenkirk signed for three more seasons. Some of their D have the mobility of a stop sign. In a league where skating and moving the puck to your forwards is a major key, the Rangers don't have much of that.

Unless Gorton can ship McQuaid off at the deadline for a better return, it's a dumb trade.

So this trade makes the Rangers worse...which is good. What's the problem?

I Will reserve My judgement on this trade until the TDL. Too early to say either way and We need to see How all things play out First, but at First glance I am slightly positive.
