It’s remarkable how good this organization has been in drafting goalies. They go from a decade of Mike Richter to a decade of Henrik Lundqvist and now they’re in the era of Igor Shesterkin. If you want to go even further back, you could even include John Vanbiesbrouk. That’s 4 full decades of having an elite goaltender. Has any other NHL team had this stretch of drafting elite goalies?

Can't remember the last time Boston had bad goaltending either but yeah NYR take the win

Suuuper inconsistent in Boston from basically 1990-2004. A couple of real nice years from Dafoe and one great year from Raycroft. Rangers had a brief dip from 2001-2004.

OP can go back further. Brief dip in the early 80s, but before that was Davidson and before that Giacomin.

Richter was not an elite goalie IMO

He got fair share of overhype being one of the faces of franchise in biggest market that won cup with him in net

Felix Potvin and others were on par with him and would not be called "Elite"

He was essentially Potvin with more stability. Both had strong starts to NHL career but never replicated success in 2nd half and Potvin moved around league a bit

Montreal pretty much had elite goaltending for its whole existence. We will see if the current drought will beat the 7 years Dryden/Roy interval. Depends a lot on how good Fowler/Volokhin are and how fast they get there.

(3 years+)
Price 2008-2021
(4 years)
Theodore 2001-2004
(5 years)
Roy 1986-1996
(7 years)
Dryden 1971-1979
Vachon 1970-1971
Worsley 1965-1969
Hodge 1963-1965
Plante 1954-1963
(4 years)
Durnan 1943-1950
(6 years)
Cude 1933-1937
Hainsworth 1926-1933
Vezina 1910-1925

Obviously, only 3 of those are actually drafted by the Habs.

Everyone’s entitled to their opinion.

Though, Richter took MVP in the 1996 World Cup of Hockey and arguably led Team USA over Canada. He looked elite to me all that tournament.

I feel that just because he only won 1 Cup in his NHL tenure, it shouldnt mean he was overhyped, IMO

Would really be nice to not have a heart attack after every single shot on net. I bet the Avs players feel the same no matter what pr talk they spin on the media.

Richter is pretty overrated because he was the guy in net when the Rangers finally won the cup again after 50+ years and being the goalie for the US when they won the 96 WCH.

Montreal is up there for goalies too. Maybe with a few gaps in between some years, but overall higher peaks than even NYR.

Patrick Roy (greatest goalie ever in my opinion)
Theodore (one of 3 goalies to win a hart in ~50+ years)
Halak (his 2010 playoffs at least stand out as one of the most talked performances ever, of stealing a round or 2)
Price (obviously, hart winner too, and his overall resume speaks for itself)

Then you get teams like Edmonton and Toronto. Edmonton has not drafted and developed an elite goalie in like 43 years. Fuhr.

Leafs have not drafted and developed a very good to elite (at times) goalie in 32 years. Potvin.

Nashville has to be near the top too. Vokoun to Rinne to Saros. Even Ellis had his moments. Twenty years where goaltending wasn't an issue. Nor D really. Unfortunately for them, they can't draft and develop a great forward.

Their goaltending before Lundqvist has always been overrated imo. Richter had some elite stretches but wouldn't go down in my history book as elite.
