Flames get:

Gustav Nyquist [UFA 2019]
2018-19 13G 33A 46P 54GP

Jimmy Howard [UFA 2019]
2018-19 SVV% .914 GAA 2.77 36GP

Wings get:

Islanders 4th RD pick 2019
Flames 2nd RD pick 2020

Mathias Emilio Pettersen Age 18, 2018 #167OV 6G 16A 22P 25GP (Freshmen NCAA Div 1)

Mike Smith [UFA2019]
2018-19 SVV% .889 GAA 3.11 :dunce:

Michael Stone [UFA 2020]
2018-19 0G 4A 4P 11GP
(Out with a blood clot, not sure of his status at all really)

Reasoning:
Flames get a bit more offensive punch for the middle 6 that could slot in nicely for the playoffs, especially on a 2nd PP unit. They also get a dependable starter who might want a shot at going deep in the playoffs, and if it doesn't work out can always go back to Detroit in the offseason. Detroit gets to stockpile some more picks for their rebuild, a promising young European prospect in MEP, and depending on what Stone's situation is, a reliable bottom 4 RHD under contract for next season.

Also should mention both Smith and Stone have M-NTCs, Nyquist has a full NTC

This will be a no from the Wings. 2nd rounder + middling pick and a prospect + cap dump is not very enticing for a top-6 forward and a above average starter.

I don't know. Not sure if there's going to be a ton of buyers among teams who actually think they have a shot out there and plenty of more attractive pieces than Nyquist.

Detroit can get a 2nd round pick in this years draft without taking on two cap dumps. Making it a 2020 2nd and adding the cap dumps makes zero sense for Detroit. They should also at least be able to get a 3rd for Howard.

Everyone wants a 1st, there are not enough 1st to give

I don't expect a 1st round pick for Nyquist. I also don't expect the team to have to take on 2 cap dumps and give up Howard to get a 2nd round pick in next years draft though.

I agreed. The original proposal is terrible for the wings

Maybe Nyquist/Howard for 1st rd pick, Gillies- Goalie, Smith provided he is a UFA!!

Heres a basis for a proposal. 1st rounder + Upper tier prospect + sweetener. No cap dumps except Smith.

The cap dump of Smith doesn't matter. Helps your tank even. Stone, while he's had a difficult time the last calendar year I don't see as a cap dump. This is a guy who recently as 2016-17 was averaging 20 minutes a night in Arizona. For a versatile bottom 4 guy you could do a lot worse. Scored 36 points in 2015-16 for the Coyotes. I think the Wings blueline could find some value in a guy like that for a year.

Just because a player's value might be this or that doesn't mean that's what they'll get. Really depends on the market, and I see a lot more sellers than buyers this year.

The prospect in this trade is getting overlooked here. MEP is 2nd in scoring only to Josh Farabee(2018 #14OV) for NCAA players under the age of 19. 9th in players U20, ahead of several recent 1st and 2nd rounders like Wahlstrom(2018 #11OV), Bowers(2017 #28OV), Iskhakov(2018 #43OV), Drury(2018 #42OV), and Norris(2017 #19OV), Samuelsson(2018 #32OV), O'Brien(2018 #19OV). He's tied with Rangers prospect K'Andre Miller(D) 2018 #22OV with 22 pts. He's just 2 behind Poehling 2018 #25OV and 3 behind Quinn Hughes(D) 2018 #7OV who are all 19 or 20 years old.

Flames are not trading Emilio Pettersen. He's having a very promising season and is a virtual lock to sign with Calgary.

After last night if I'm the Flames I just offer my first for Howard and be done with it. You clearly don't have any faith in either of your goalies if you're pulling them that quick. This is a hell of a team and you can't compete with Vegas and San Jose with these guys.

With how much flames fans complained about not wanting to ruin the chemistry on their second line in the Zuccarello thread I agree.

I have zero interest in Howard, he's far worse than his numbers indicate, if we're going to pay for a goaltender it should be a true #1

If other teams are only valuing MEP as a throw in prospect I definitely dont want him traded.

I would give up a first+ another prospect+smith though if we could get nyquist and howard.

No, he isn't. He is however prone to injury. But to say he is worse than numbers indicate is either ignorant or disingenuous.
He also gives up a ton of muffins, something we'd be trying to get away from.
