Leafs with 4 greedy losers

My question is always, what would other teams have offered him? Impossible to know, but if he stayed on pace and hit the FA market on July 1, what would he have been offered?

Obviously 7 year max. I have a feeling at least a team or two would have offered the same or more. I think it is too much, but, it's nice to have nice players to continue to cheer for.

People like to forget Tavares was offered 12 mil / season and took (ONLY!) 11 to be a Leaf. Maybe in the end Willy took a cut too.
92/8 = 11.5
92/7= 13.14
No team is giving Willy 13.14 over 7 and full NMC

When Tavares' contract comes off the books our depth will be just fine

I'm betting Tavares is not coming off the books at all. He'll re-sign for something like $4-5M less, at least some of which will go to Marner's raise.

That'll leave the Leafs with at best $3-4M in freed up cap space and that doesn't include any extensions & raises for existing players like Knies, Woll, Domi? Also, Brodie won't likely be back which frees up cap space but also means his spot on the top pairing has to be filled, and probably for not any less than his current $5M (Lilegren is not that option, at least not yet)

So everyone please get past this notion that once Tavares is gone (and he may not be at all) and the ceiling is raised it's going to be raining cap space in Toronto and all the teams' worries will be taken care of. It's not, not even close.

The core 4 simply won't give the team any discount.

As much as I like Willy's performance in the past few seasons, his production will drop in the upcoming years for sure.
Shows $$$ trump winning in which case you will never win with them. Proof is in the pudding.

How did he do that?
A that one delicate wild card factor that’s keeping everyone on their best behaviour at the moment, is former NHLer, and Nylander’s father, Michael.

“This is a unique negotiation because of Michael Nylander," writes Friedman. "Honestly, I feel gross writing it because I hate bringing up family when it comes to this stuff. But it is a factor and why everyone is so careful in discussing where things stand. He plays a major role in these conversations and William is very loyal (to his Dad), as you would expect.”

Where are all the Paul Marner people now? Same thing.

Yeah really, like who were we bidding against here? He wasn't getting over 11.5 on the open marke

maybe 11.5 on 7 yr but not getting full NTC and max bonuses.
Good new is he only has a M-NTC for the rest of this season and we can still trade him before July 1
