I mean yeah this is absolutely true for well adjusted grown adults(should be). When I was younger the things that happened affected me more.

It can still bug me at points at 35 but also I can disappear for long stretches of time because now I have so many other responsibilities lol.

Not to get off the rails here - but it should be Marner that gets traded. Maybe im biased, but Mitch rubs me the wrong way. I can’t shake the spoiled-brat vibe he gives off.

For people saying he (Marner) is entitled to a raise, why? IMO he’s currently overpaid, IDC what % the cap will increase by. When the going gets tough he turtles, I have lost all respect for him. He needs to boss up in the playoffs and quite frankly, he doesn’t have it in him.

Add Willy to the growing list of cap casualties because Marner is an entitled, little bitch and Dubas created a “safe space” culture that enables this behaviour.

To add: I understand Nylander isn’t Mr tough guy out there by any means. I think the previous contact demands by Marner (Auston being the “only” comparable, what a joke), his little IG apology, his ridiculous “me against the world” approach with the media. I’m sick of him.

If Willy ends up being a cap casualty, Marner should be traded aswell.

Fix the culture Tre, please.

I will get angry or upset during games but life carries on very quickly after another playoff disappointment at this point lol I think part of my soul left my body after 2013. Nothing can effect me after that.

It started with the Columbus series and then I think the final straw was the Montreal series...I haven't gotten the "passion" back since that.

It came back briefly after the Tampa series win and then the way they went out against Florida just brought the same feelings back.

The problem is no team is going to give you any value in a trade without having him extended. How many teams out there want to pay his ask of 9 plus million?

This is exactly the problem. Teams will sign him for $9M as an UFA, but no one wants to pony up assets and pay him $9M.

A smart front office is probably licking their lips at the moment.

If moved, Treliving likely pushd for something similar to his last summer big trade where he aims to bring in 1-2 vets to help the team win right away

Let me remind you of Treliving's last big trade.......
Overall his trade history is pretty good.

- Brodie for Kadri would've been a easy win because Brodie was leaving. Kadri nixed it.
- he turned 15th overall pick, glencross, Ferland, Fox (wasn't gonna sign anywhere but NY) into Hanifin and Lindholm
- Paid a 1st, 5th and former 2nd for Toffoli
- Paid a third for Zadorov
- Signed Tanev
- Drafted Tkachuk, Andersson, Killington, Dube

Seems that players don't want to be in Calgary, but if his hand wasn't forced, he would've built a very strong team in Calgary.

I think I said after the season that it'd probably be Nylander... not that it should be. I wanted 1 of the 4 core to go after the playoff loss. Too top end heavy which many have been saying forever and this team had its chances.

They just can't run this back and they need a different mix and allocate money to different areas (better bottom 6, better top 6 left wing, and a higher end D Man)

JT is probably too hard to trade. He wouldn't waive and they gave him that right. He's still good despite what many think but he's more looking like a winger these days. He's never been the fastest.

Matthews is a C and a great one. Yup he pisses me off sometimes and his contract won't be perfect but you can't trade him. It'd be crazy. Leafs would be bad down the middle. We don't have enough top talent right now in the C spot.

Marner should probably be the one to go due to his contract being the worst one when he signs next (in saying that... cap is going way up by then so...) but he's still 2 years out and he's the one to me that you'd never come close to winning that trade.

Just removing 1 of these higher end contracts will help a lot.

I know leafs can still keep going with all 4 of them and still add and LTIR Muzzin and buyout Murray etc etc... but I just think they need to change but it's going to have to be a big hockey trade.

I don't know what Calgary has in the pipeline for C prospects etc or overall but Nylander and some kind of ++ for lindholm and hanifin. It's why I don't do trades much but I think there's an easy base there or maybe Carolina?

What comparable could Nylander and his agent be using to justify more than 9M AAV (The absolute max the Leafs should be prepared to offer)? I seriously don't understand how this contract can't write itself - the only variable is term, IMO.

If you get the right 2 players, it's fine.

I'd be pushing for Necas and Pesce if Carolina is calling.

Think we have to wait until Shanahan is gone for that to happen.

I see what you’re saying, but I don’t believe that at all.

Trade the entitled attitude(s), a new coach, and a different element (toughness), would go a long way.

Everyone jokes about Reaves, Lucic, ext - but I’d take them both (rotate them all year), re-sign Schenn and Acciari. I’d also look at trading Marner for Wilson, IDC if he declines in 2-3 years.

We would be “worse” on paper, but who cares? On paper we currently smoke FLA in 4-5 games but that wasn’t the case. The rules change in the playoffs wether we like it or not, it’s time to adjust.

So PLD wanted LA and signed for 8.5.
Then Meier liked to stay and signed for 8.8.

Willy says he wants to stay and is about the team but then turns around and says as long as I get 9.5 to 10m.

First time around Willy was all about Willy and Dubas caving in then cost us dearly with Matthews and Marner.

Should have traded him back then and things would now be very different in Leaf land.

As others have said with things so tight all over he needs to be dealt but it is very doubtful the return would be much.

Tree is stuck between a rock and a hard place here thanks to Dubas.

It depends on if it ultimately makes the team better.

I don't think you'd be gotting an asset like Pesce back. Basically think an 4ish million 2nd pairing D man and a 3-4 mil top 9 forward

Totally agree but it could be Shanahan who is calling the shots there.

What teams think they’re a dynamic scorer from contenders?

Calgary
Carolina
New York
Seattle
St Louis

You'd rather the player who puts up less points and wasn't nominated for a Selke?
I'd rather keep the better player and better goal scorer (despite having to drag JT around), who actually shows up when the games get tougher, and who is also on a much better contract.

Whatever happens, happens. My life won't be any different and if you're all honest with yourselves, neither will any of yours.

Letting something like a sports team, which you have no control over, have any kind of serious meaning in your life just seems like a really bad idea.
It is a bad idea. And if everything goes wrong, and all the other fans point and laugh, and the Leafs go into a deep dark hole for a decade again..............well that'll just feel like coming home after a wonderful, long vacation.

It's nice to get back home.

This is exactly the problem. Teams will sign him for $9M as an UFA, but no one wants to pony up assets and pay him $9M.

I don't think that's true. If they want him, and I'd imagine there'd be a decent lineup of teams that would, getting him before he hits UFA gives them a chance to make their case that this should be the team he plays for.

If he goes UFA, bidding war.
