Nylander's issue is that he is easily the most tradeable relative to his cap-hit.

And that's both a compliment to him as a player and a dig at how poorly our soon-to-be-expired-GM negotiated the other 3 big contracts for our core players.

For that reason, we should probably trade Nylander to re-balance the roster and prospect depth slightly better...

And again, that's nothing to do with Nylander as a player/person.

I don't want to keep guys who shrink in big games and trade the one that doesn't. Marner is the most obvious one IMO

He sucked too and you can check my post history, I called him out more than anyone these last two games.

However, he's still had games where he's been point blank the best player, whereas Marner has had very few of those in the playoffs in his career. Marner's body type unfortunately just doesn't work for playoff hockey either, he gets rubbed out too easily with the additional interference and pressure and doesn't have the elusiveness of someone like Patrick Kane in his prime to get out of it.

While that very well may happen, it doesn't correct the issue.

Matthews and marner are not taking a pay cut, and Tavares isn't going anywhere.

He's the only leaf I trusted with the puck on his stick. Even when Marner, Matthews or Oreilly had the puck there was a decent chance of a neutral zone or done turnover but with Willy he at least got it into the ozone first.

I just don't think AM or MM have it in them to be both leaders of a team (as their most important players) and be able to elevate their games. If they go to another team with a good culture in place and they don't have to be the focal point...yes I can see them winning something...but it will not happen here. The well is spoiled for them here IMO. Mitch is going to want the moon on his next deal from us...let him and AM get their money elsewhere.

We obsessed over regular season performance for 7 years and come playoff time it meant nothing when the regular season heroes always disappeared. I wouldn't say that. Of the three $10M+players, Tavares was easily the worst, Marner next, and Matthews the best. I know - damning with faint praise.
