So looking to be ironic, no?
no- painfully honest about what Leafs Nation and Moron Man, with his ball cap, sweatshirt, track pants and running shoes, with a pitcher of domestic swill and plate of suicide flavored chicken sticks in front of him do not understand:
1, in the salary cap era you pay for what players will be in the future, and not for cups won a long, long time ago in a galaxy far, far away . That is why so many in Leafs Nation are freaked out - Nylander's pay for tomorrow,
2, Leafs Nation has a resentment towards paying our own players lots, but loves the idea of bringing in old, grizzled veterans who would not dare sign here in their prime, but now that they are too slow and too weak, Leafs Nation clouded memories interfere, and they would rather have Patrick O'Thuggo than some skilled player.
3, The Great Unmentionable: (see lack of UK or Irish name)
4, Leafs Nation has this dinosaur toughness fetish, and refuses to consider that toughness equates to penalties for the Leafs and power plays for the American opponent in the playoffs in the American Association of US Ice Hockey Teams, which is the true name of the particular hockey league the Leafs play in
5, The fact is that the eye test is out and spreadsheets are in. Look at the draft pick gold the Leafs are hitting on. Why? Great scouting with great information management. How is it done? Analytics and spreadsheets.

What draft pick gold have the Leafs hit on exactly? Looks like the spreadsheet fails to show how to get out of the 1st round of the playoffs. Or is that part of the Bettman conspiracy?

I'll praise him when he plays like a 7 million dollar player for more than 1 game in a row.
Do you remember during his hold out being told his comparables were Pastrnak and Draisaitl?

Phil Kessel is a guy who never gets the respect he deserves but, by far and away, the worst disrespect he has ever been given is these silly Leaf fans comparing Willie to him.

If he was ever close to playing in the same ballpark as Kessel, threads like this would not exist. Phil produced way more. He played with way less talent around him. And, yes, he even tried and competed much harder than Willie ever has. He was also money in the clutch and had an awesome playoff series against Boston.

It’s great he’s positive and confident. That said, the constant reference to himself “dominating” out there seems a bit disconnected. Willie is on pace for 49 points, despite playing with a premier center in the league. He’s been great some games, some off games, a couple bad, he’s getting chances but domination means executing. As I pointed out earlier his career shooting percentage is below the mean, so is he happy to enter zones and get chances but not capitalize? Pasta is dominating, perhaps Willie needs to re-examine how he measures success...putting up points is all that matters in a game with scores. Triple sow cows are irrelevant, it’s bar down in this business. I wish he’d stop saying he’s dominating and dominate.

it's been said too many times, but Nylander has to embrace playing a physical style of play like Pasta does. Don't shy away from contact when entering the offensive zone combined with actually throwing the body on a regular basis would completely change WN's game, he'd find that he's actually not made of glass and gain time and space to ply his offensive talents.

Having said that, don't hold your breathe, he hasn't the character to made said adjustments.

Leaf ‘fans’. Would be fun to be part of a group that supported their team and pulled for the players not doing well. But we are a hateful bunch more interested in sarcastic forum posts.
I hear what you are saying , but it sounds to crazy. You must understand that if i think Marner is closer to Nylander than Matthews i realy must hate Marner. There is no other way.
And if i think Nylander are a ok player almost worth his contract, i am the craziest leaf in loafers ever to wear his lucky socks each gameday. So be it.

Thanks for bringing it up thou!

Dubas should have bridged him. His perceived value was at an all time high when he signed. I knew it wouldn't last.
should have sat him for the season or had him sign a fair contract. That would have sent a message to all pending RFA's that the TML are open for business and their business is fair contracts for both team and players.

I guess claiming that a non-elite player is not elite is being a hateful person these days... go figure...

If you honestly feel like all you've been doing is objectively discussing WNs supposed "eliteness" then fine. Good for you.

What does elite even mean anyway?

This is a very base and judgmental post. You are liberally stereotyping your way through every point.

Most importantly it's ripe with cynicism IMHO.

Cynicism is certainty, and if you have any experience in this world you'll know that there is no certainty.

No one knows the best way to build a hockey team. At this point in time Dubas doesn't know either.

We all have an opinion. We should be heard without having idealistic hockey fans putting us down.

In a small class of the best in their field. In hockey it's made up of 3 or 4 players like Crosby, McDavid, Ovi, etc. That's it. It doesn't extend to 20-50 players.

In
HF terms it's used way too much.
Nylander
is not elite.
