I do think people are running a bit wild with the 11 mil number as if it's a given.

He's likely going to get somewhere in the 9.75-10.5ish mil range on an 8 year deal.

Ideally it's settled by the team sooner than later. Get the man locked in before the draft so the team can do some better long term cap planning as they head into next summers free agency
im happy with 10x8, i still think its a touch rich but its within reason no doubt. on leafs post game they were saying 12...like jeebuzzzz....
i just want a bit of rationality, so thank you for providing that lol.

No…That’s not what fact means.

Nylander plays for Toronto - that’s a fact. He isn’t done in Toronto - that’s a fact.

Leafs will have the space available to afford an $11-12M dollar Nylander at the end of the season when numerous contracts come off the books that will accommodate the $4-5M dollar raise, if he and the club agree to terms.

These are things known to be proven or true. These are facts.

Your strong preferences don’t meet the standards of what facts require.

That’s also a fact.
Fact...you are a blow hard and grammar police. Thats a fact. The way I use it is to begin a sentence. How about this? IMO the leafs will not be able to afford Nylander. Feel better?

Leafs need to seriously explore trading Nylander

He's nearly leading the league in points. Currently has twice as many points as McDavid. Nylander for McDavid plus a 1st? :sarcasm:

But seriously - Meier got 2 1st's last year. What does Nylander get? An elite #1D?

A Nylander trade return will be around what Meier or Fiala got. Basically the equivalent of 2 mid to late 1sts (or a 1st and a similarly valued prospect). He'd be less than a one year rental for the buying team. They're not going to trade a prime roster asset like a top 2 D for him.

Imo not worth it for the Leafs. Just extend him and move on. Worth noting that an extended Nylander (or say Marner for that matter) can be traded at a later date, even 3-4 seasons from now.

10.88mil for 8 yrs.
About a mil more than the summer but he is worth it as he seems to be hitting his prime with consistency

He's far better then both

Sure - I agree with you.

Calgary finished 4 points behind the Leafs but won their division and made it further in the playoffs before Gaudreau and Tkachuk left. That 'never as talented' is ridiculous.

But assuming Marner takes 11M x 8 when Matthews got 13.5M x 4 given his last contract was held up because he wanted 10.9 x 6 (or more - he wanted Matthews money) as an RFA seems very doubtful

Maybe Marner has a change of heart and doesn't think he's as good as Matthews now - looking doubtful though.
Roster for roster at any point in time we’ve had a way better forward group in potential and current skill

friendly reminder that pasta has been over a ppg player for 5 straight seasons, has 3x seasons over 30 goals, 2 over 40 goals and signed 5 months ago after a 61 goal 113 point season for 11.25mil/yr for 8 years.

willy has 2 season over 30 goals, 1 over 40 and has been a ppg player once in his career.

if people think willy is worth pasta money they are off their rocker.
And Marner has been making $11 mil for the past 5 seasons, that’s madness

It seems like people seem to think Matthews and Marner are good enough to carry a team in the playoffs. If they are I haven't seen it. Can't think of one playoff series we've lost were I think "Swap Nylander's $7M and replace it with lower skilled, more well rounded forwards/Dmen and we would have won the series". I mean Nylander literally outscored both of them combined in the Florida series. The Montreal series was the absolute lowest of the low for that duo. Sorry but if we're keeping 3 elite forwards the mix shouldn't be Matthews/Marner/JT
Yo you know what I’m saying??

Marner has 6 x 95-99 pt seasons. Selke finalist and 2 time 1st team all star

Literally voted the best right winger in the game twice.

Will has had a phenomenal start.

But he is no where near where Marner has been.

How many hot starts have there been

Why would you trade the 1 elite forward who is actually good in the playoffs.....

It doesn't make a lot of sense to discuss his career PPG when it isn't a representation of the player he is now or has been for a few seasons

In the last 2 seasons, he clearly took a step forward and scored over PPG when there weren't any contract demands. Now he appears to have taken another step forward
fine...
last 2 seasons(which isnt how this is done with contracts btw)
nylander 163gp - 167p(74 goals)
pasta 154gp - 190p(101 goals)

pasta JUST signed for 11.25 over 8.

also, in the playoffs
willy 40 points in 50 games, matthews 44 points in 50 games, marner 47 points in 50 games.

has he SLIGHTLY outperformed the other 2 when you take contract into account..sure.
but to suggest hes the only one thats good in the playoffs is completely disingenuous and just not accurate at all.

marner is 7th in points in the NHL over the past 5 years.
one could argue they dont like the contract, but madness? hardly.

its funny, people are calling for marners head for how hes played(i dont think hes played all that well myself tbh lol) and want to give willy whatever he wants, and hes 7 points behind willy for the season(that WITH willy playing by far the best hockey of his career)...which he could catch up or surpass in a week given his history.

Because he’s the only one without an nmc.

I argued all last season they should trade Marner before it’s too late.
Tough for new GM to come in and within a few weeks trade a franchise winger. Not sure why Dubas gave Mitch his NMC for the last two years of his deal. I hope he enjoyed being bent over by the Marner camp.

If our rookie gm that had no idea what he was doing was going to accept the outrageous aav's of the young core, the outrageous front-loading, and outrageous signing bonuses then he should have created the specific caveat that their contracts expire the same time as Tavares and no nmc's on the final year.

But literally NO aspect of those contracts were team friendly. None.

Still wouldn’t change the fact of who’s been the better player it’s not points nylander has impacted the game more than the others have

I agree with you. At least shop around. If Nylander agreed to a trade and sign, it could fetch a huge return.

Most leaf fans will mock you though. They would prefer to watch a team with 4 elite forwards lose in the first round than a more rounded team with 3 elite forwards win a cup. Many leaf fans are odd like that.
Unless there's a team out there with a star who wants to leave (like the Tkachuk situation), the Leafs would likely get some combination of picks, prospects and roster players. Can't see a team who sees themselves in win-now mode doing that.

All I said is put some feelers out.

It’s possible some team out there with some combination of elite D/goaltending/prospects may be very interested in 8.5 years of Nylander.
