There's a very good reason Nylander protects his dozen eggs whenever he's on the ice.

He's the chicken that laid them.

Nylander is easily one of the most cowardly players in the league. He has a yellow streak longer than the one running Yonge Street. He makes Ingmar Hammerstrom look tough for crying out loud.

The entire team is pathetic heartless and weak.

That's what makes them so disappointing. They all have oodles and oodles of talent. But lack the testicular fortitude necessary to win the cup.

They just want to get paid like it is all.

The loser mentality of a team of rich hockey players who don't actually have to win anything in order to be successful. It doesn't matter who the players, coach, or GM is either. The stench of Blue'n'White disease will always eventually rear it's ugly head with this team.

The product of an organization that values making money over winning cups.

Nice swing at Nylander but a clear miss by a wide margin. You are screaming at the wrong cloud.

You think Nylander is a coward? He took the TTC the other day, that’s William Wallace level bravery

Planes are kind of bad for your health when you're old. Even if we disregard increased radiation and flu/covid like infections.

The main problem is the low pressure, they don't pressure you're cabin to normal atmospheric pressure, but to the equivalent of 3-5000 feats.

It's your grandma in 5000 feats for 8 hours, not the plane ticket prices.
The guy didn't just start playing yesterday. She hasn't had a single chance to watch him play live in 10 years?

In all honesty, I don't get this. Why couldn't he fly her to wherever to watch him play? All of the NHL games, all of the international games the guy has played, he couldn't get her on a plane to watch one of them?
Has he played in many International NHL games?

Yeah, I mean they could have a luxury cruise ship, make it a week trip, easy on grandma. I'm sure he could find a way, without bleeding too much.

Yeah, so 15k off what I said?

He could probably get that from Chicago, although they'd be setting a high mark for Bedard out of ELC, not unlike us with JT.
You don’t think he’s worth it or you just don’t want to pay that?

Why repeat that mistake. Given Nylander’s play & contract structure, he is the most tradeable & probably can extract the most value from another team. Trust me I don’t want to get rid of him but they are cornered. Not to mention, only one goalie, 3 defenseman & 7 forwards are signed for next year.
I don't think we'd get as much for a rental as some people believe, and I don't think we're 'cornered'.

We could probably have received more for Marner if we had traded him before his NMC kicked in, with two years left on his contract, but that chance is gone.

If you trade Nylander now, it will be as a rental to a team hoping to be a contender, so it will be for futures, which may or may not pan out, but almost certainly not in less than two years. So the team likely will be even worse up to the time we finally get rid of the Tavares contract, and quite likely not as good even after.

Why compound the JT mistake by virtually giving away your second-best player?

With all his money and he couldn’t even fly her over here to see him play…….cheap ass
I think it's at least as likely that she doesn't want to fly. At her age, if she's not flown before, it wouldn't surprise me.

She may have seen him play - it says "NHL" game.

I don't think I would like to get that high for Nylander, but I don't even want to go for much of a raise on Marner either. Age curve is a bitch too.

Pastrnak is pulling 11.25M as a 60 goal scorer for 8 years (and knew the cap would go up) and I go from there;

Previously I had a group of 5 top RW in the league as Rantanen, Kucherov, Pastrnak, Marner and Tkachuk (no specific order) and Nylander just outside of it.

Nylander is right there but hasn't scored 60 goals or won any individual hardware. We also haven't enjoyed playoff success as a playoff team, it will get harder if we stay top heavy.

I think one thing we could do that few other teams could do is offer up a lot of his contract in signing bonuses. For example, Pastrnak's contract is only 29.4% in signing bonuses, we could do maybe 92-93% in signing bonuses, money today is worth more than money tomorrow.

One thing to consider is that Nylander is the only one of those players who doesn't play on the top line, and likely has lesser linemates. Last year was a bit different, as he did spend more time with Matty (when Matty was slumping), and he put up his best numbers.

It looks like Elias Petterson will soon be signing an extension with Vancouver. Theoretically this should set a ceiling for Nylander's deal...considering Petterson's younger age, centre position and 100 point season already under his belt, he should be a couple million per more than Nylander on the same term, but sadly i think the deals will look very similar.

It's a crap situation for Vancouver too. Pettersson's in a good position to demand big money.

For sure, I take that into account.

Offering up 9.5M, with significant signing bonuses is hardly an insulting offer.

That or you are committing to changing this team drastically if you go higher than that.

Wouldn't accept it as the ceiling simply because centres are more valuable than wingers.

At best the Leafs will receive what the Wild got for Fiala. Basically two late 1sts or equivalent prospects.

Not exactly a plan for success to lose a 40 goal guy for a couple picks they'll just end up flipping for tdl rentals.

There's zero chance a team gives up a blue chip asset or a core roster piece for a rental, even one as good as him. The Leafs will get meh futures only

Better to sign and trade. I can see a team giving up a blue chip prospect for a rental if they think that rental puts them over the top.
