Not necessarily. With a new arena and culture, they should easily attract free agents to Long Island which is a great place to reside. With this move the NY Islanders average age has to be what 70 right? They better hope they win the cup because when they fall off, it's gonna be a hard fall.
good to see you buddy. Hope you had a great summerwhat is the Islanders avg age of their roster now ?

Not for nothing but the NYI for years had the top 10 prospect pool which equaled no results. I'm sure most NYI fans are not complaining now. The core Isles right now are pretty darn young too. Would name the guys, but the lists is pretty long and have to get to work. Thanks Lou and Trotz for setting up the NYI on paper for a decent upcoming seasonI'll take trying for a Cup rather than being one of HF's top 10 prospect pools. It's bizarre to say there hasn't been more than a handful of teams as successful as NYI the last three-five years. That's a hell of a lot better than when we had a top ten rated prospect pool here or in TSN for five-ten years.
If we crash in another two years without winning the Cup, it still beats the alternative.
Lee, Palmieri, Bailey, and Varlamov are their only key players over 30 (and only Varlamov is over 31). Barzal, Beauvillier, Pageau, Wahlstrom, Pelech, Pulock, Mayfield, Dobson, and Sorokin are all under 28. They have some old guys, for sure, but their core isn't old. With this move the NY Islanders average age has to be what 70 right? Shhhh. You're ruining their narrative. Let's keep facts out of this... for the children.Everyone talks about the Isles average age, but take 2 minutes to look at the roster.... the only guys 33 or over, other than Varly, are all signed for this year only. Chara, Greene, Parise, Komarov, and Clutter are all UFAs after this season. Varly has this year and next.
All due respect to Chara's career but most teams turned him down for a reason.
Most likely a depth role on a minimum deal. Unofficial but 8 heads maybe Florida pitt and tor aleast inquired .It sounds like Boston would have kept him a few yrs ago, if he had accepted a reduced role.
So, yeah I could see him drawing interest, but I would be curious to know what role those other two teams have up for grabs.
Isles have had many big signings recently, Ross Johnston, Matt Martin, Scott Mayfield, now Zdeno Chara. That's a lot of Big.Easily the biggest signing in Islanders history.
He wants to stay close to his family in Boston. FL is the furthest away. Most likely a depth role on a minimum deal. Unofficial but 8 heads maybe Florida pitt and tor aleast inquired .
I expect Gustafsson to make the team as another LHD, and rotate games with Greene and Chara. The left side of the defense is very concerning because this is the first season in 2 years that will be a full 82 game season and we have a few AARP members out there.
BUT, I think there is a plan to work in the youngsters where they can while giving the veterans some time off. Greene and Chara can help out guys like Bolduc/Salo/Wilde so that they will be ready in seasons to come.
This move is a depth move and is targeting towards leadership and bruising playoff play compared to trying to win a President's Trophy. I'm sure the Isles regular season will see ups and downs with old guys showing age and youngins making mistakes but by playoff time Trotz will have figured out the lineup he needs to make a run.

I love seeing this. Chara is the perfect safety blanket for Dobson, hopefully Chara can help his development the same way he helped out Tin Cup McAvoy.
100% agree and so does Trotz
I want both Chara & Greene to only play in 60% of the games. Let them work out some sort of rotation. Aho/Bolduc/Salo can fill in when they're out. 82 games plus what is hopefully a long playoff run may prove to be way too much for our elder statesmen. The left side of the defense is very concerning because this is the first season in 2 years that will be a full 82 game season and we have a few AARP members out there.
