From an Islanders perspective we need a center to replace Nelson, as for Ottawa not sure where they are on wanting to deal with Pinto and they might prefer the draft Capital

Sorry, but huge miss here. The Sens aren’t in the business of liquidating Pinto for a pick, especially not what would almost assuredly be a mediocre late 1st in your scenario.

Doesn’t fit what the Sens are trying to do and doesn’t fit what Pinto’s value is.

To put it another way…it would cost more to get Pinto than you got for Nelson. Easily.

The Sens are trying to win. Why would they trade their shutdown centre? Who would they match up against Auston Matthews, where Pinto has done a great job this season?

A late 1st round pick (Colorado) in 2026 would have about a 25% chance of even becoming an average NHL player.

Shane Pinto is a good player who had his 2nd 20 goal season, and is a very good defender.

If anything, the Islanders would trade a good player to the Sens for a draft pick not the other way around.

I know Pinto is from Long Island, but this proposal makes no sense at all.

jokes aside depending on how management feels about matinpalo (fans seem to like him more than the teams management) i can see some interest in mayfield, especially since Jensen is getting older so need to supplement. I would personally bring back Matinpalo but im not in charge.

Besides that i can see interest in pageau (if retention is involved) and cizikas

Moving Mayfield and his contract would be ideal even if the return is another table scraps return. It would move out the contract and give the team some flexibility going forward on the back end if they can’t figure out (or find deals for) what to do with Pelech/Pulock. As for Pageau, he’s the pending UFA so ultimately I can see teams going after him over Cizikas who has multiple years left. Since you brought up Jensen and him being a UFA in 2026, I wonder if that would be something trade wise between the teams, Ottawa saves about 500k with the swap of Jensen and Mayfield.

I dont see Sens trading Jensen, I can see sens playing next season out with Jensen to see if there is a drop off and if not extend him 1 year at a time. Him fitting with Chabot has been huge. I am not even a diehard Pinto guy, but sens are not trading a legit 24/25 year old 3.5 m c for a 2026 colorado pick in the 24-27 range.

Personally I’m all for moving Mayfield out even if it’s a similar contract player with no term coming back in return. It could work if done correctly but no idea what Lou (or whoever is in that seat) has in store. Ideally his best option would be to find takers on some of the contracts he signed and just fill with small stopgap contracts and hope that he can rebuild/retool in 1-3 years. He needs to figure out what to do with Mayfield, Pelech, Pulock, Duclair, Engvall and Cizikas to start. That doesn’t even include the UFAs this or next summer.
