A 1st alone does not get pinto.NYI: The later of either the Islanders or Colorado first rounder in 2026
Ottawa: Shane Pinto
From an Islanders perspective we need a center to replace Nelson, as for Ottawa not sure where they are on wanting to deal with Pinto and they might prefer the draft Capital
Best I can do is a 2nd for Anthony Duclair. For a 3rd we can include RHD Scott Mayfield.counter said first round pick for the rights to travis hamonic
jokes aside depending on how management feels about matinpalo (fans seem to like him more than the teams management) i can see some interest in mayfield, especially since Jensen is getting older so need to supplement. I would personally bring back Matinpalo but im not in charge.Best I can do is a 2nd for Anthony Duclair. For a 3rd we can include RHD Scott Mayfield.
Moving Mayfield and his contract would be ideal even if the return is another table scraps return. It would move out the contract and give the team some flexibility going forward on the back end if they can’t figure out (or find deals for) what to do with Pelech/Pulock. As for Pageau, he’s the pending UFA so ultimately I can see teams going after him over Cizikas who has multiple years left. Since you brought up Jensen and him being a UFA in 2026, I wonder if that would be something trade wise between the teams, Ottawa saves about 500k with the swap of Jensen and Mayfield.jokes aside depending on how management feels about matinpalo (fans seem to like him more than the teams management) i can see some interest in mayfield, especially since Jensen is getting older so need to supplement. Besides that i can see interest in pageau (if retention is involved) and cizikas
I dont see Sens trading Jensen, I can see sens playing next season out with Jensen to see if there is a drop off and if not extend him 1 year at a time. Him fitting with Chabot has been huge. Ottawa can fit in Mayfield without having to send anything back and the expectations is Yakemchuk gets at least 1 year in the ahl.Moving Mayfield and his contract would be ideal even if the return is another table scraps return. I just went Jensen due to position. Perron would work though since it’s another UFA in 2026 the Islanders wouldn’t be tied to. Ideally it helps the Islanders start to reshape the roster by moving out contracts with term for shorter ones. It would atleast give the team some form of direction moving forward.I dont see Sens trading Jensen, I can see sens playing next season out with Jensen to see if there is a drop off and if not extend him 1 year at a time. Can maybe see something around Perron for Mayfield. Perron has been a good fit but i can see Ottawa maybe making this change and just sticking with Giroux as the resident old man, especially since sens were able to add to their top 9 with Zetterlund.
YesI'd like to know what substances the OP is under to think that the Senators would trade Pinto for just a first rounder. And not just a first rounder but the lesser of two first rounders a year from now.
For sure from Ottawa's standpoint it gives that RD side support in case Jensen drops off. Like I said i fully prefer Matinpalo but I expect management is of the same viewpointI just went Jensen due to position. Makes sense. Ottawa has the 4C spot open for next season and will have some money to work with just not 5 million worthIsles won’t trade Pageau with retention
Personally I’m all for moving Mayfield out even if it’s a similar contract player with no term coming back in return. It could work if done correctly but no idea what Lou (or whoever is in that seat) has in store. Ideally his best option would be to find takers on some of the contracts he signed and just fill with small stopgap contracts and hope that he can rebuild/retool in 1-3 years. He needs to figure out what to do with Mayfield, Pelech, Pulock, Duclair, Engvall and Cizikas to start. That doesn’t even include the UFAs this or next summer. For sure from Ottawa's standpoint it gives that RD side support in case Jensen drops off. That 2025 1st rounder is paired with a generational C tier prospect. This offer is too good to refuse so how could you not want to send us what we need. There is going to be a lot of bad offers incoming that goes like we need a 2c and we will give you a draft pick from 18-32 in a bad 2025 draft. (this offer was a 2026 1 but you get the point).
I am not even a diehard Pinto guy, but sens are not trading a legit 24/25 year old 3.5 m c for a 2026 colorado pick in the 24-27 range.
How so teams could turn down the Jeremy Bracco TML sweeter is beyond me.That 2025 1st rounder is paired with a generational C tier prospect. This offer is too good to refuse so how could you not want to send us what we need.
Hey, he’s a local kid just like Shane Pinto. How so teams could turn down the Jeremy Bracco TML sweeter is beyond me.
