How on earth is a 6x6 contract for a guy barely squeaking over 50 points once over his career, and a career average around 40, good value or a win for the team?
Especially for a 28 year old who is what he is. There is a chance it ends up as a good deal, but not very likely

Not a terrible deal, but i don't think it's all that good either.

Nelson really thrived being the 2C with Tavares gone instead of getting bounced around the lineup like he was prior. 50 points, solid defensively. Assuming he sustains his production from the past season then this deal is alright.

Because the Isles are probably screwed if he goes somewhere else and he could have demanded 7 mil knowing the position we're in. Not a lot of options out there.
who are the Isles replacing Brock with for a better deal if they let him walk?
Yeah, I understand that. It just makes it more palatable for the Isles to sign him for this more than it means that the contract itself is fine.

Thank god Fenton doesn't have the chance to sign him anymore. Lee next please

After Duchene, Pavelski and Hayes, (Thornton's either staying in SJ or retiring) the UFA C crop goes down a hill with Brassard, Spezza as the reamining pure Cs and Johansson/Wilson as C/LWs

This is a very risky deal for a player who is likely to fall off at the midpoint of it. But it's not like the Islanders have a lot of cap-crippling deals at the moment. Three years from now, their slate is nearly clean. Might as well offer term to keep the cap number sane.

If we get the guy Trotz turned into a decent 2 way player for the next few years I'm happy. He really had Isles over a barrel due to the organization's weakness at Center. Probably slots in better as a #3 Center but one needs to work with what's available. If he reverts to pre-Barry form I'll be disappointed. Trotz seemed to like him and pushed him. If all these unsigned guys walked Isles would be in a sh*tload of trouble next year. Duschene and Panarin aren't coming here.

Seems very high given his production. Guess the Isles had no leverage, though.

Bodes very well for Anders Lee. He could easily ask for 7-8M per on a similar term deal now.

Production like his best season when the Isles were bottom 3rd in goal scoring and had one of the worst PPs in the league?

Lou is going to improve the offense of this team which will improve scoring for everyone.

But i get it. It's a lot easier to go to Hockeydb.com and look up his stats than follow the lowly Islanders.
