UFA adds to the price. 7.22% cap %Seems pretty steep for a guy who has averaged 21 goals / 40 points on his career and will be 28 by puck drop this year.
I was told Lou bent players over and got them to sign sweetheart deals because of his experience.

Paying him 7 million on a long term deal would have been horrendous. 6 is bad enoughHe'd easily have gotten 7 on the open market. What a surprise, a leafs fan with some shade.
David Clarkson got 7 on the open market. In hindsight, should he have gotten that? Just because a player commands a certain amount of money as a UFA doesn't mean he's worth that or slightly less. He'd easily have gotten 7 on the open market. What a surprise, a leafs fan with some shade.

Decent deal
Yeah it's fine. Isles are in a tough position because if Nelson goes, they have to find another 2C, either in trade or in UFA, and the likelihood of Duchene is probably pretty low. He could have easily demanded more given the circumstances. That's fair value for a pending UFA?
Sure. But that's in a career year for a guy who is going to be 28 next season. It's a contract that takes him to 34.Worth noting that his stats this year put him squarely in the middle of the 2C group, so 6 mil is probably right for an average 2C UFA.
Because the Isles are probably screwed if he goes somewhere else and he could have demanded 7 mil knowing the position we're in. Not a lot of options out there. How on earth is a 6x6 contract for a guy barely squeaking over 50 points once over his career, and a career average around 40, good value or a win for the team?
