This early of a move makes me think it is all a matter of where the teams have the dividing lines in their draft tiers. The Islanders probably have something like 12-20 or so in the same tier whereas the Blackhawks have a tier that ends around 15 or 16 and think one is more likely to fall to 18 than 20.

I like it, always surprised there aren't more trades like this.

All teams can't have the same tier list. Chicago wants to go up, must be targeting someone. New York likely thinks they'll get comparable players

I honestly don't get this.

This is a move you do at 20 when you think 19's going to take a guy you love that's unexpectedly fallen in the draft. This doesn't seem much of a tangible improvement for a very small upgrade to a mid 1st and a late 2nd at the cost of another late second this far out.

If I am not mistaken, the Hawks just had their first round of scouting meetings. I am wondering if they maybe solidified their draft list a bit and wanted to make sure they get 2 guys on it.
What will be nuts is when it's draft day and the guy they wanted at 20 but felt they had a better chance at 18 gets taken at 15.

I don't get this at all for the Hawks. Any scenario you throw at me goes in the "Could have done it at the draft when you know who is and isn't getting taken" bucket.
Could this be the 2nd part of a past deal, an implicit "thanks" for a previous trade?

Otherwise... why now ?
This crossed my mind too.

Islanders need picks. Good move
Chicago needs quality over quantity. They will try to go back up (some trade will be easier with picks 18, 34 and 50) ¿Minnesota?¿San jose?

trying to make their 2nd 1st rd pick as attractive as possible for Toronto in a Marner deal is my conspiracy theory. Even if it doesn't happen on draft day ( to avoid paying his bonus ) the Hawks draft who Tor will ultimately want/get back
