Why wasn't Franson and Santa in the Nashville lineup on Tuesday night? The trade was complete by then since we played Jokinen. Are they going to play tonight?

They did not get their US work visas cleared in time.

The rumor is that Franson made two defensive mistakes in the Montreal game and Nonis/Shanahan didn't want to keep giving him time to lower his trade value.

The only think Jokinen messed up was his great locks, you want him on your team... if you want to lose
Yeah I'm not sure how anyone can be worried that a 36 year old on a 10 point pace is somehow going to turn this trainwreck around. Especially considering our defense consists of Morgan Rielly and a bunch of bottom pairing defensemen and/or AHL callups.

Yeah I keep hearing how we'll "start winning" and so on, I just don't see it.

Why complain about it? We got a pretty solid return.

If sold right at the deadline, I'd guess Franson would have gotten two 2nds, and Santorelli a 2nd + 4th or something like that.

A late 1st is worth more than two late 2nds (it's worth an early 2nd + late 2nd, but not two late), and Leipsic at this point is worth more than a late 2nd as well. So I think we got equivalent value to what we would have gotten near the deadline anyways.

Maybe we could've gotten a slightly better deal if we waited. Maybe not. Maybe one of them gets hurt in the next 2 weeks.

No real use dwelling, we got a fair offer and got the tank started early. No complaints here.

This about sums it up for me. Not sure what windfall people think we might have got had we waited and if Franson got injured, we end up with nothing which would be absolutely horrible. I'm pleased with what we got, wasn't expecting to get any more anyway.

And it was widely known, Poile was looking to move that 1st. Franson hasn't committed to anything, Santorelli is playing for a contract at a price point beyond Toronto's comfort...And we got a first and a very good prospect...That's a win for Toronto under these imperfect circumstances.

Yep. Franson sucks. Preds way overpaid for him.

Surprised that Santorelli hasn't done better for them.

Even though Franson sucks, I'm still surprised that he hasn't put up more points.

Franson has been playing really well for them; he's getting more sheltered minutes than in TO and his possession numbers are through the roof. His PDO is poor so he's been unlucky, which you'd expect for a team in a slump.

He's not getting points because he's getting zero PP time. For whatever reason they acquired a PP specialist but don't want to break up their existing D pairings on the PP even though Franson is better in that role than who they have.

Santorelli on the other hand, not sure what's up with him.

That is just insane. There must be something missing from this story.

Nash acquired them also as depth for a long playoff run.

Their use and value will come about soon. Especially if there is any injury to their D.

And I refuse to believe Santo isn't a positive for them. Not sure how Franson is playing though..

I've been watching Nashville in a few draft-tank games. Nashville are not playing as well as earlier this season. I don't see any evidence this is because of Santa or Franson. Their roles are somewhat reduced there to depth players. It's more Nashville as a team rather than Franson or Santa from what I have seen.

They were never a great team to begin with IMO. Sure their Defense is amazing and Pekka can be amazing when he's on his game, but their forward lines are meh. Ribeiro is their #1C and he got bought out from a team like pheonix last year Lol. Not to mention forsberg has cooled down and Neal has been overrated since he got there. Dude currently has 35 points in 63 games ewe.

Looking at this deal post-deadline we got a great return compared to other deals that went down.

Could work out well for us..

If they drop a few spots and lose first round no? Leipsic may steal a spot next year. If Nashville goes out early how high can we draft?

I wonder if an early playoff exit due to lack of scoring will make them consider the Kessel for Jones trade.

If they're looking for a big name goal scorer, Kessel's gotta be near the top of the list of available players.

If they don't want Kessel, I wonder if they would want Lupul or JVR?

Maybe if they sign Franson, then Jones will become a trade bait to help them up front.

I agree, and its definitely a possibility. They got Neal to provide some primary scoring but obviously that hasn't planned out since Neal is just a byproduct of Malkin anyways. If they get knocked out early they will probably be in play for a high-tier offensive talent, just like the panthers, and I hope they jump on Kessel because I want him gone!!
