He was pretty bad at 5v5 last year which is way Tampa was fine with replacing him, but he's still got that one time and is deadly on the power play.
Everybody was bad 5v5 last year - everyone not named Kucherov. That new system was a failed experiment.

Damn, those taxes really saved Nashville money here....

The guy scored 40 goals last year, was basically a point per game player and has 2 cups on his resume.

What did you think he was signing for, $5M? That's the number it takes to get a player like him to play in *checks notes* Tennessee

Check out Sam Reinhart's deal after a 57 goal stanley cup campaign and tell me the taxes didn't save Florida anything. That dude would've gotten $10+ anywhere else.

I think it's important to state that rumours are not facts. If you have ironclad evidence that proves to this claim, by all means.
Stamkos would have signed for much less to stay in Tampa. He didn't want to leave. But if he was forced to, yeah, might as well maximize the salary he could make.

Bad look on both Tampa and Stamkos

Tampa because they treated their captain and franchise player for so many years like dog shit.

Stamkos because looks like all he cared about is money. I can understand him however since he accepted cap friendly deals twice to stay with Tampa and help them keep the core together. Time to cash in.

I think this is the way most people will look at it but i think the truth is somewhere between that and that people forget they won a cup with him only playing a period or two in the finals. End of the day it's a business and the gms/players will maximize their goals in windows they got. End of the day Stamkos is not getting 8 mil on this lightning team at this stage of his career and good for him to get that. To the preds he might be worth that and I hope he is.

Reinhart got an Extra year. Wants to win another cup. Guentzel got 9M over 7 years for less production, same state. If Reinhart was signing for 7 years, he would have got around $9.7M simply based on math. Its like winning and signing for extra years can lower your AAV?

Stamkos scored mostly on the PP with Kuch feeding him. Kuch had 100 assists. Tampa offered $24M over 8 years. Nashville also with no state tax offered $32M over 4 years. You think a 34 year old power play specialist playing with one of the best passers of the modern generation was worth $8M/Year? Taxes be damned, no other team would have paid 34 year old Stamkos $8M a year.

But you know, cry some more about the Tax Boogeyman.

Preds overpaid for a grey-bearded Stamkos. He was great as a Lightning for many years, but the handwriting was on the wall when the Bolts didn't work out an extension deal earlier in the season.

The worst part of this will be Marek and Friedman boo hooing about Stamkos not being a Lightning for life. It's a business, guys, and you're supposed to be impartial journalists. Not soppy fanboys.

19 were on the powerplay with Kuch feeding him. He had 39 PPP. Who on Nashville is going to feed him like Kuch? Marchie? Forsberg?
Probably an 80-95 point Roman Josi, ROR and Filip Forsberg. Our PP has been dog shit, if he can be an 8mill PP specialist that'd be awesome.

Dolla billz! And probably liked the thought of the hard working team they’ve got there.

Nashville continues to sign past their prime stars.
It worked out for us with ROR and McDonagh.

We don't need him to score 60, but if he keeps hitting 40 and 80 points it'll be a hit.

All great players, but they aren't Kuch. And doesn't Forsberg play the same side as Stammer?

Half of his production came with the help of a stacked PP. He's a weapon in the hands of the right PP, but you still gotta feed him the puck before the goalie has time to set up.

Lol I'm sure Stamkos can find some way to score on the power play without Kucherov. He's a big boy.

If they don't switch spots, or one of them on the point then we have Evangelista as a set up man.
Sure, you know better. Its not like we haven't watched Stammer from his office getting gifts from Kuch for years now. I love Stammer, always will, but I won't lie about what he is now. All I am saying is don't expect him to be scoring 40 again this year.

Then Roman Josi can feed him one timers until he scores.

Lol. Roman Josi is capable of passing to Stamkos, I'm sure it'll be ok.
