Probably an 80-95 point Roman Josi, ROR and Filip Forsberg. Our PP has been dog shit, if he can be an 8mill PP specialist that'd be awesome.

It worked out for us with ROR and McDonagh.

We don't need him to score 60, but if he keeps hitting 40 and 80 points it'll be a hit.
I’m not bashing at all. I think Stammer will be a good addition. He’ll bring some name recognition and excitement to Smashville

Reinhart got an Extra year. Wants to win another cup. Guentzel got 9M over 7 years for less production, same state. If Reinhart was signing for 7 years, he would have got around $9.7M simply based on math. Its like winning and signing for extra years can lower your AAV?

Stamkos scored mostly on the PP with Kuch feeding him. Kuch had 100 assists. Tampa offered $24M over 8 years. Nashville also with no state tax offered $32M over 4 years. You think a 34 year old power play specialist playing with one of the best passers of the modern generation was worth $8M/Year? Taxes be damned, no other team would have paid 34 year old Stamkos $8M a year.

But you know, cry some more about the Tax Boogeyman.

The league and entirety of the media has brought up taxes. It's not a "boogeyman" but since it helps your team, sure, I guess it doesn't exist.

Reinhart signing at what he signed for is tax advantage 101. Don't give a f*** about the 8th year. The dude scored 57 goals and was instrumental in a cup. He could've gotten $11+ on the open market which is what it would've cost had he not taken a massive hometown discount with FLA. Which, you know, is enabled by the tax break.

Copium overdose for you. Huge, huge coincidence that a tax-free team has made the SCF for the last 69 years.

Yeah if the all-star game & awards show are any indication, Kucherov certainly seems like a passionate guy. I'm sure he's fuming.
I've never seen anybody who hates to lose as much as Kucherov. He probably is fuming. But I mean, they're all professionals.

I did not want to lose Stamkos, especially at the reported prices he was offering.

This is not a good deal for Nashville though, honestly. He will probably score 60 points or so, without Kucherov on the PP. Still an effective player who can score goals, but $8m is just not going to age well for him.

Still. Did not want to lose him.

:cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry:

1 player signed today who got a tax advantage, but it was only a part of the puzzle. f*** all logic that they just won a Stanley cup, still primed to contend for a B2B, lives a comfortable life, likes where he lives, took a team discount to keep the team competitive, has had only one season at 50+ goals with an ungodly shooting percentage. f*** the fact that yes another team would have had to offer him 11 because guess what genius, there wasn't an extra year. Like seriously? How brain dead are you to not piece this together. Nashville got a real discount on Stammer, Tampa got a real discount on Guentzel, Seattle got a real discount on Stephenson, Dallas got a real discount on Dumba.

The tax boogeyman really rotting your brain from the inside out. Hell, one of the best deals signed today was Domi from Toronto, he took a discount and guess what, there was no taxes. Kane took a discount in Detroit, no tax advantage. It's like...now hear me out because I know it's hard for some people who lack critical thinking skills, maybe taxes aren't the only reason players take discounts, and that while they will because of taxes it's usually a whole picture of multiple factors that make players decide to take less.

But continue to blow all your money on Tissues to wipe away all the tears while you cry about taxes.

Gutted by this. Watched this guy for the last 16 years help drag this team out of the gutter all the way to the top. Lots of highs and lows in between. Stamkos became not just the face of hockey in Tampa but probably the biggest sports icon this city has seen. I'm not sure anything will top the Stamkos era in Lightning history. That the origination couldn't see past the X's and O's and see the impact this has on the locker room, the fan base, and the community is just shocking. This day should never have come, and made even worse by the way it was handled.

Nashville you guys got a hell of a leader. Accountability in the locker room, genuine interaction with fans, thoughtful responses to media questions. This guy does it all. And one of the best shooters the league has ever seen. Best of luck in Nashville Stammer.

This doesn't make sense. Stamkos signed for 8 Mill, why Tampa didn't offer him this money is insane, They just signed Guetzel to just over 7 mill. Stamkos has done a lot for Tampa. He still is putting up good numbers.

I mean, I hate to see him go, but we couldn't pay him 8 or anything close to it.

The 4 years at that AAV aren't great. That said, I'd have given even more for 2 years. Sad to see him leave Tampa.

Let’s pretend the asinine, uninformed tax hypothesis has any merit (it doesn’t).

Why does this only affect the NHL, and not the NFL?

If there is one lesson to learn about free agent frenzy, winning free agent frenzy day does NOT win you the cup. Drafting and development wins you cups.

Tampa being ruthless. Chose a UFA winger over their franchises best player. I can't imagine it is popular with the players
Uhm, Which sources help you indicate that Tampa was Ruthless? What if Steven just didn't want to play there anymore, like any player may want to after the contract is up. It's not all about some silly banner on a cieling.
