The Preds are in a weird spot where it's always going to be difficult to not at least make the playoffs or just barely miss them. So improving through the draft is not really a good option. Even if this is an overpay it's only $1-$2m a year. That is basically insignificant in the whole scheme of things given how the Preds roster is currently structured, pipeline players, and potential FAs out there that fit within the Josi/Forsberg window.
