Berube will do what’s best for the team not individual stats, he made Steen play a lesser tole because it made the team better, this could happen to marner too………
I hear ya but just wha we need is another 11 mill player to go along with Tavares needing lesser sheltered minutes………..a hell of a job that Dubas did, what a winner

Marner has all the control. I won’t blame him one bit if he stays and leaves via FA.

He owes the leafs nothing

Just like Mathews and Nylander now with their NMC that Tre gave them recently

If the fans boo because they want something in return and treat him like they did with Sundin then it just shows again that alot of fans have no class

Imagine the Habs treating their all time pts leader like we treated Sundin?

Fletcher played the media and fans ate it up like gospel

Will it be the same here? look at all the trades etc proposed by the media etc to cause a stir when Marner may never waive.

Then what? fans will blame Marner and in reality he had ever right to stay …play in the top six and get his 80-100 pts.

Maybe a team makes an offer at trade deadline for renting Marner but in the end he will choose who he wants and his contract.

Max deal options is the only thing that may sway him to sign and trade but he won’t go to a rebuilding team imho

Imagine demanding Matthews money and then playing like Alex Kerfoot in the playoffs. If he was a car, we have traded him in after the Habs series. He's made almost $70m. He owes the Leafs nothing. Minimum wage employees have more loyalty to their companies.

I wouldn't bank on him leaving because of the NMC. It also feels as though it'll be "easy" to fit in a new contract afterwards because the Tavares deal will be done by then.

Why are we assuming the "team" doesn't want him.
Because Treliving is trying to trade him. You think these rumors are just for shits and giggles?

It has nothing to do fitting his contract in. You can find numerous avenues to fit in a cap number. It’s that signing him re affirms the belief in this group and that is a fallacy. We’ve tried this group for many years it hasn’t worked. Time for change

i think ferris knows the only way he ll get a raise ,will be in a tax free state ,his raise will be 11 million in vegas florida somewhere where its not taxed
can u imagine if marner s camp was getting the CRA colonoscopy that tavaras is getting

This nonsense between Tavares and the CRA should imo concern all fans of Canadian sports teams. There is a very real possibility some players will choose to leave the country to avoid the chance this could happen to them.

I understand that. My comment had to do with the room created under the cap and having three big deals on there rather than four.

Why only 5 on 5 ? Why not total goals and assist in all situations? Last time I checked even pp points counted and won games.
We need to look at the total package

A real quick look because everyone plays well with Matthews.

How can people not realise how terrible Nylander is defensively? Especially compared to Marner. You don't need stats to see it, just watch the games. Gnite.

We all wanted to see matthews not Tavares but thanks anyway pal cause the eye test tells me marner and Tavares don't work and marner and matthews don't work and the one time I recall matthews and nylander on the ice in the playoffs resulted in a goal

They both play on the same PP so their stats will be very close. Nylander scores a lot and Marner gets lots of assists. Until recently Nylander didn't penalty kill.
Context is always difficult but both are top six wingers and spend most of their time with Matthews or Tavares. 5v5 over the last few years is about the best we can do without an enormous amount of work that wouldn't give us much.

Berube won't use him the way he wants as a result his stats will suffer. He will also get the Sundin treatment. He will try and be strong and stubborn but will end up crying at night as his numbers dwindle. After 3 months and several benchings he will beg for a trade to a town where overpaid players aren't held accountable. Marner finally realizes it's about the fans who pay not selfish, spoilt and soft babies.

I think he gets traded.

The sooner the better too. If they start the season with him on the roster it's gonna be an even bigger shit show than normal. Fans have already targeted him to be the scapegoat for the players part in all the losing.

They ARE going to boo him.

Better to just trade him now. If Marner knew what was good for him he'd accept the trade too. He shouldn't be too fussy about where he goes either.

A hockey god like him can turn any team into a contender.

Marner is now only the second player I ever hoped gets traded before Nylander. The first was Michael Bunting. Unsurprisingly I wanted them both gone for the same reason too.

They don't have the maturity to deserve to be on this team.

Playing here is a privilege. Getting that much money to do something you love is an honour. At some point the team has to do what's right for everyone else and the fans.

Getting rid of a cowardly puke like Marner would be a good place to start.
