Well yeah, that is how you play a highly talented team, hit them, hit them, hit them, hit them. It slows them down, takes them out of position, if you are expecting your winger to be in a certain spot for a pass and he is 40 feet behind you on his back, that takes away options.
We know that Andersen, Perry, Chabot will all be trying to be physical, in an attempt to slow us down. It's to be expected, its to be welcomed, because if they are predictable and they do try that game, its not hard to beat them, to give a hit you also have to take yourself out of the play too. Quick chip passes, our skaters have to support the guy along the boards to give that outlet pass. If you were going to go for a big hit, take yourself out of the play and turn it into a 4 on 4 with Marner, Matthews, Nylander, Tavares, Hyman, Foligno on the ice, I'd take those guys 4 on 4, with more ice any day of the week over just about any other 4 on 4 pairing in the NHL. Sure you want to go for the big OOOOOOHHH AHHHHH hits... fill yer boots.
They will probably send 2 forecheckers in at all times, forcing our D to make quicker decisions, again support your D by giving them outlet passes. Because of this approach, Sandin IMO would be a better choice in this series than Bogo. Sandin knows how to make time and space for himself. Bogo is more of a lumbering smart vet that is good against a bigger slower team. Maybe if the thought is you put Bogo in to protect Campbell, I can see that being a good choice too.
Maybe I'm being over confident but I think Montreal game plan is pretty simple to figure out, Dive, hit, force Toronto to make quick decisions and try to get the Leafs away from a 5 on 5 game where Montreal can't compete man for man.
It's a shame one of the Marlies didn't take some liberties on Gallagher and hack the crap out of his hand. I mean, your on the Marlies and you get suspended for a big ole 2 hander to Gallaghers thumb... and you help out the big team by hacking Gallagher.... you probably just got yourself a few big league games with a big league pay cheque next season.
