I'm one of those who didn't get him. In fact, honestly, I found him very unfunny... however, I admired that he was always in a good mood and tried to make people laugh. I imagine that he kept his fight private so that he wouldn't sadden people (the opposite of a comedian's mission), which I respect. It often feels sadder when a comedian passes away because it feels like a light went out, and though Norm didn't do much for me, I appreciate that he made others laugh and will be missed.
I respect your opinion but opinions are like assholes, Neil Patrick Harris wants to stick his **** into both of them

It's great seeing all the Norm fans in the internet age. Back in the day, it seemed he was just "there" and nobody seemed to find him too great. I don't know what it was about him but he always cracked me up no matter what was doing. From the SNL days of course, standup, to his TV shows. A friend of mine and I STILL quote some of the gags from The Norm Show to this day. He was absolutley hilarious on that, but not to anyone's but his own credit. His way of saying and doing everything was always simply instantly enjoyable even if what was doing overall hadn't much substance. There's just something about some people sometimes.

Started a rewatch of all of Norm’s SNLs in order. The first year is a bit odd trying to figure out which are the jokes he wrote for Kevin Nealon on WU and seeing him pop up in sketches.

I'm parcially with you. I think I "got" him, but I found his comedic style to be lazy comedy. Sure, jokes don't need to have sophistication, but I value more comedy that has some substance to it. I could take him to a degree but I found that he quickly became tiring or just plain awkward to listen to.
