I think we see the first threepeat in NFL history in a couple weeks... I get it, a lot of people are tired of the Chiefs (personally I've been pulling them as "my afc team" since Reid got there unless they play the Panthers). But man you gotta appreciate watching greatness in real time. Just like with Ovi and chasing Gretzky. I know it seems like dynasties are super common with the patriots and before that the 49ers, Cowboys, Steelers, etc. but this feels different than those, and I'm not so sure we'll keep seeing dynasties after this Chiefs team.

Also, tell me if I'm wrong but are the Sean McDermott Bills not pretty much the same as the Rod Brind'Amour Hurricanes?? Both teams with long streaks of winning at least 1 playoff game/series, a handful of conference championship appearances but can't get over the hump and make the SB or Cup Finals.

Hopefully we change that narrative this year though.

This Eagles team is far more complete than the one who lost 2 years ago. Defensively, they are a completely different animal, able to dominate the LOS with a 4 man rush. And offensively, if the Chiefs slow them down, it'll be the first team to do it over the last 4 months.

The Chiefs are definitely great, but people are seriously sleeping on just how dominant this Eagles team has been since they were 2-2 at the bye.

Quite frankly, I'm glad we are facing them again. Have some unfinished business after that last one.

Maybe. McDermott last year did make the OC change every Bills fan begged him to do. Rod will die for Gleason and Daniels.

I've never understood (american) football. I never realised they play so little amount of games compared to the other major sports. And its always the Chiefs in the final, boooring..
And before the Chiefs it was the Patriots. For as popular as the sport is here I'm not convinced that the biggest reason isn't for gambling purposes and the fact that it's easy to watch on TV since it's not a ton of action so you don't miss much hitting the can or what have you after plays

Sounds like the best type of background sport while cleaning or doing literally anything else

this reminds me of story...

my hometown high school football coach was every stereotype you can think of. one year he went to some big coaching conference (all sports, not just football) and the keynote speaker was bobby knight.

bobby apparently pissed of hometown football coach. at some point in his talk, bobby went on an aside to basically say football coaches have it easy as hell because they play one play, then stop and talk about what to do, then repeat. no flow, no need to coach the players on anything but what the plays are ahead of time, instead of also coaching what to do in the flow of the game and how to be situationally aware without having to stop and talk it over.

i always got a laugh out of that. very on brand for bobby knight, and honestly he had a point lol

The reality is people's perceptions with the refs are incredibly skewed and biased. The actual penalty stats do not back up any of the claims that the Chiefs get favorable calls. Allen draws considerably more roughing the passer penalties than Mahomes and the Bills were top of the league in favorable penalty differentials while KC was middle of the pack. What winds up happening is people watch the games with a preconceived notion that the Chiefs are benefitting from the refs and look only for calls that seem to go the Chiefs' way to latch onto while ignoring other calls that favor the losing teams.

Why would anyone talk about or care about the bad calls that went against the team that wound up winning anyways? They don't and the Chiefs just win so damn much that all that gets talked about is the bad calls that go their way. Reality is that the refs are human and not perfect at their jobs and bad calls happen -- and it's completely random and goes both ways. I've watched almost every Chiefs playoff game since Mahomes took over as starter and have seen bad calls go their way and go against them plenty.

The Chiefs are just flat out better than any other team in the NFL -- at drafting/roster building/cap management, coaching, QB play, clutch factor, composure in the playoffs, etc. That's all there is to it and it's f***ing amazing to watch and follow along as you don't see this level of dominance much at all in any sport. As reported by the AP, in the playoffs since 2019 the Chiefs have had 11 drives in the 4th quarter or OT while trailing by 1 score -- the result of those 11 drives are 7 touchdowns and 4 game tying field goals. And on those 11 drives the Chiefs did not get a single 1st down from a penalty in their favor.

There is nothing fishy about it.

Listen I hate the Chiefs and I am still very bitter about the defensive holding in LVII that basically ended the game after very similar plays being allowed all game.

But

I don't have a problem with any of the calls last night. Regarding the 4th down, do I think that Allen got the first? Yes, absolutely. Have I seen any camera angle that shows he definitively did? No. And the long pass, theres no business that should not have been picked off. As a DB you have to be able to secure that ball. You have to. Did the nose of the ball hit the ground on the way down, yes, but did the ball move in their hands when it did, no. So it was a catch, and it should have been an INT, and they blew it.

Also, Kincaid you have to make that catch. You have to.

My only beef with the 4th down spot/call is that the line judge who could see the ball (before Allen was blocked by the KC lineman and was further) marked it a 1st down. But the closer line judge on the other side who never saw the ball marked him short and the refs used his spot. I’d love to know why because that decided the play because there was never going to be an angle to change the call on review.

Outside of that yeah the catch/no catch made a yardage difference but the INT would have been wiped out by the flag so Buffalo was never getting the ball. And KC likely runs the clock down enough and puts points on the board so the Bills probably don’t score their touchdown to answer.

I'm a big fan of Reid. He seems like the dream coach who gets the most out of his players and knows how to put them in places to succeed rather than the all to common square peg round hole/the players must fit my system.

I don't think this will be the last dynasty. Mahomes is a great talent with a ton of help. He's been pretty meh the last couple seasons. I think TEs are a little undervalued around the league.

I don't think this will be the last dynasty. The NFL loves dynasties and actively promote them. I personally would enjoy more Cinderellas and a larger diversity of winners.

Yep I like the Chiefs because of Reid mainly. Pretty much the perfect head coach and man I wish the Panthers would've gone hard after him when Philly fired him instead of sticking with Rivera, but oh well.

It may not be the last dynasty but it already is a level of dominance we've never seen before in this league and may not see again in our lifetimes, that's what I meant.

Looking at stat sheets one may think Mahomes has been "meh" but watching the games and taking into account the context says otherwise. He really hasn't had much help at all on the offensive side of the ball the last 3 years since they traded Tyreek away -- his '22 season was arguably the greatest season from a QB ever: regular season MVP with NFL record 5600 total yards and 45 TDs to only 12 turnovers, along with SB MVP (first to win both MVPs since Kurt Warner). Look at his pass catchers from that season: Kelce, past-his-prime Juju, Skyy Moore, Mecole Hardman, Kadarius Toney, Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Justin Watson. Pretty much a bunch of #3 receivers and scrubs who are out of the league. Rookie 7th round pick Pacheco at RB along with bust Clyde Edwards-Helaire and journeyman McKinnon. Their OL that year was just barely above average. Their D was 16th in the league so Mahomes had to put the offense on his back. And he did.

These past 2 seasons the D has gotten to be completely elite (largely due to 2022 draft class developing which were picks from the Tyreek trade) and without a great OL, running game or pass catchers Reid has adjusted to basically winning games by playing smart situational football offensively and winning on defense and special teams -- that limits Mahomes' stats considerably and makes him look worse but if you actually watch the games the guy is still playing better than any other QB and making the plays he needs to make pretty much every single time in the situations he's needed to. He's just being asked to do less because of the makeup of the rest of the team. Not to mention he played the entire year this year without his top 2 WRs and still led them to a 15-1 record...

At some point here it'll probably swing back with Mahomes getting improved weapons and OL around him while some of the D guys walk or get traded and you'll see him put up huge numbers again and they'll win that way. They can just win any way they need to since they are the best HC and QB combo in the league
