Earlier in the summer, before the Coyotes situation got settled in Glendale...

The investment banker friend I have were telling me that the group in Seattle had everything locked up to buy the Coyotes. All they needed was the go ahead from the NHL BoG...

They want an NHL team.

Not sure about Portland. Nothing was coming out of Kansas City. The rumors about Les Alexander and Gary Bettman being at odds are just that, rumors. Alexander (in May) was reportedly 50/50 about bringing the NHL to Houston. The problem with that situation is that he would only need to bring in 10% of the stake in minority investors, so there wasn't a huge paper trail like Seattle.

He has no insight into Canadian markets.

Philly just signed Cleary to a 3 year deal worth $2.75 million a year with a full NTC. Oh Holmgren, how are you still a GM?

That is...ugly. For sure. Wow.

Dude is a 4th liner. Maybe a 3rd line guy in short stints when he's hot...but ugh.

Holmgren gonna Holmgren.

Crazy.

What is Holmgren thinking? Cleary was going into Red Wings camp on a PTO. That tells me that he got no other offers from around the League. He probably could've gotten him signed much cheaper and without the NTC to boot. I would think something between $900k - $1 million and 1-2 years would've gotten it done.

I thought Philly was already over the cap and was looking to move someone like Mezaros to clear some space.

Yup they don't even have Cleary on here yet. Pronger's contract is hurting them combined with all their overpaid d-men. Yikes. What a situation they are in.

No, Wings invited him on PTO but Cleary said he won't take it and he wants contract bc he has offers around the league.

Imagine if the Oilers had moved to Houston way back in the 80's. The Houston Oilers (which makes more sense)...

I can dream can't I? :pout:

The reason I brought it up sarcastically in the first place is because I know they'll never bring a team here. Nevermind that we're the only city in the top 10 biggest in the US that doesn't have one, we're just too far south and Dallas already has one. :sarcasm:

They can go ~$5 million over the cap thanks to Pronger's contract being on LTIR. They've got the space but not the brains.

IMO, the Flyers need help on the blueline more than they need a 3rd line LWer.

I'm calling ********. There were no offers besides this crazy one.

How can Mason Raymond only get a PTO and this guy gets signed for three years with a NTC. Wow it is absolutely crazy. Why wouldn't Philly spend this kind of money on defense? Cleary is well just Cleary, a third line waste of space.

In my travels around HFBoards, I've noticed Sens fans get really defensive about Karlsson.

I swear, even if someone says something like "Karlsson isn't the best defenseman in the league, even though he's a good player" it takes 2 seconds and some guy is defending Karlsson's amazingness. It's annoying as hell.

ya think????

It's become seriously nauseating.....Some are actually claiming that Karlsson is better offensively than Lidstrom. All this after one monster season.

Kid has talent, no question, but it's little early to be associating him with the future HHOFer.

We're not that bad when it comes to Brodin.....are we???

I've actually started to notice this in this off season.. Never realized it before.

I'm actually browsing the Suter vs Karlsson thread right now, which is one of the many examples

He's a great hockey player, perhaps the best one ever to play in FEL. But ****ing hell, the overhype gets so annoying. Many Sens fans in that thread are saying that "they only have a problem when someone says Karlsson is bad defensively", yet I have seen 0 posts in that thread saying that he is bad defensively.

It's okay to be excited about your player, but it's good to remain realistic.

We got a little...crazy when Brodin wasn't nominated for the Calder, but otherwise I would say no.

Karlsson is a great player, but I see him as more of a 4th forward than a defenseman. I'm not saying he's bad defensively, but still weaker than Suter.

Pierre-Marc Bouchard skating with Tavares - Moulson early here in Brooklyn @NHLfantasy #Isles

PMB - Captain Tavares - Moulson

Seems like a pretty good line. Good for the Butcher.

Oh, and Cleary signed with Detroit.
Bottom line here with Dan Cleary is that he had second thoughts after agreeing to PTO with Flyers. Met with Holland/Babcock yesterday...
He wanted to see one last time if Wings could do anything. As @aaronward_nhl reported, Wings able to come up with 1 yr/$1.75 M
Cleary thanked Flyers for PTO but said he had change of heart, wants to stay in Detroit. Taking less than market value for sure.
A good season by Cleary and he'll be able to get a better deal next summer with salary cap going up
As Cleary says via text message, he's following his heart

I don't get why they even wanted to keep Cleary. You'd think it was time to let in one of their prospects, as Cleary isn't exactly irreplaceable.

Edit: Looks like their fans are wondering the same thing.
