Rodgers out for the season. That’s brutal for the Jets.
Just saw that. Devastating, both for the Jets, and Rodgers. Achilles are tough to come back from, especially in a sport like football or soccer. At least in hockey, your foot is protected by a very stiff boot.

Bad news for Rodgers and the Jets. On the bright side, it was his left achilles that tore and not the planting leg.

I find it funny people are trying to blame the turf for this. J.K. Dobbins had the same injury this weekend on grass.

In football, no matter the surface, you wear gear that gives you the best footing. Are they going to ban wearing cleats on grass then too?

Agreed. The artificial turf used by most team (including the Vikings) is light years better than it was in the '70s-'90's. And as you said, players also get hurt on natural grass, especially on new sod or rain soaked fields. Injuries like this can be just freak accidents and no one can say that if MetLife Field had natural grass that this injury wouldn't have happened.

The stuff that they played on in the Astrodome, Kingdome, etc in the 70's and 80's was essentially indoor/outdoor carpet on cement. Destroyed many a career....there was absolutely no give to it. The stuff now is light years better.
From what i saw of the Rodgers injury is was pretty innocent looking, but his feet was in just the wrong position at the wrong time.

What I read from the numbers is the rate of incidence isn't much higher on artificial turf vs grass. Do you have the stats from the '70-'90's? My bet is the difference is quite a bit more.
The numbers are higher. That’s the point. Though I don’t expect Vikings fans to agree with the point since they use almost the exact same turf as MetLife.

70s through the 90s are so irrelevant. Why that’s even a point being made in this thread just shows how out of touch people can be. “No need to improve now because it’s better now than it was 50 years ago” :help:

I believe the point of bringing it up was that people are perpetuating that artificial turf vs grass is being exacerbated by the difference that was present 70s-90s

Still irrelevant. The graph shows that in 2022 you were 37% more likely to get injured playing on turf. That's not insignificant.

0.005 difference.

This incident? Would likely turn out the same on grass.

Want to talk non-contact injuries? Then I'll argue in favor of grass. Not in this full contact incident though.

Since there are a number of stadiums that don't have the option of putting in natural grass, artificial turf is not going away. As I said before, there have been major improvements made to artificial turf over the past few decades that have undoubtedly prevented player injuries. I'm not sure what I said in my post that gave you the impression that I don't think improvements can still be made moving forward.

Apparently the Flores Defense is overly simple to read according to Mayfield.
Not stolen signals like the headline says though.
Saw that, am very intrigued to know if stuff is just dumbed down since it’s a new defense in year one. Hopefully they can complicate the adjustments better moving forward.
