Wow a struggling 23 year old dman for a legit top 6 player on a good contract, what steal for the Habs!
Yes. 23 year old dmen are still considers prospects and have lots of value. If Valimaki was a legit top 4 at 23, there's zero chance he would be on the block for Toffoli.

I think CGY needs to add, Valimaki is a former 1st rounder but from what I have seen and read four years after his draft he is still a bottom pair D right now. Toffoli is off to a slow start but he he still is a 25 goal scorer on a 82 game basis.

Dmen take longer to develop. Valimaki's value is higher than his draft position. No way Toffoli, who is turning 30 brings you back more than a 1st.

If I had confidence he'd re-sign with Montreal, I'd offer you Josh Anderson.

Toffoli's an option as well.

connor brown + conditional pick based on if brown ends up resigning for hanifin?

It would kill ottawa's RW depth but with the sad state of the sens defense right now and the fact that its hanifin its a move worth looking into. Thoughts?

Signed to term and making south of $5M, I think the Flames are getting a lot from Hanifin. He's a big part of what they're doing right now, and what they're doing is clearly working. Swapping out major parts to address holes that aren't hurting you isn't something that teams in a groove look to do in mid-season. You make that kind of move in the offseason.

Adding that kind of RW at the trade deadline in exchange for futures is more in line with what a team in Calgary's position looks to do.

Threads like this is why fans are just that and have no business thinking they know how to manage a professional sports team. Imagine wanting to trade a linchpin defenseman in his prime for a winger.

Is there a trade there to be had? Hanifin's development has hit a brick wall despite ample opportunity to grow while the Flames have a glaring hole in their RW depth

Would any of Kempe, Kupari, or Vilardi be of interest in a package? Kings need a LHD in Hanifin’s age range. I could see Anderson moved as the defenseman going to CGY in the package.

I think Iafallo would fit Sutter hockey like a glove, but I think we value him higher than the Flames would in a deal.

Are you people nuts?
Remove Hanifin and our top LH dman is Kylington, ridiculous.
I'd love to have Toffoli but he's the kind of player you trade picks or prospects for, not top 4 dmen.
Let's trade for a RW that decimates our blueline, Derp!!

Rangers are not a fit 1:1.
Howev,

can see 3 way
something around
Strome + Hajek to Flames,
Hanafin to Kings.
Vilardi to NYR

Rangers add two 2022 4ths [NYR, WPG] to Flames
who add 2023 2nd + 3rd to NYR

Rangers add two 2022 2nds [NYR, StL] to LA
who add 2023 + 2024 LAK 2nds to NYR

something like that

Strome is a rhs C who can slide over
have seen him as best fit for Leafs, but I see him taking 4 yrs x 4.75 at low end, and not much more to extend if he insists on more.

Hanafin is not elite but is a higher end LD, fits King poster profile.
get concession of 2 2nds now for 2 2nds later

Rangers get value which helps address need for pivot prospect and helps w/cap next yr

thoughts?

Tyler toffoli would be my target

* Hanifin
* 2023 3rd
for
* Toffoli
* Kulak
* 2021 4th

Or the Habs can offer both Toffoli and Chiarot for Hanifin and a 1st. That 1st could be this year or in the next two years (with pretention). We could send back a 2021 3rd the other way. Don't like the idea of trading a 1st? I assume so

Toffoli is a value contract for 3 years. A 1st is a starting point, not a max point. You would say the same thing about Backlund if you were in a selling mode and wanted futures. Toffoli as a pending UFA rental at the deadline is a 1st and grade B.

And Valimaki would not be a target of mine as a Habs fan. Don't hate him but he is not a team need for the Habs.

You seem to be not high on Anderson cause you have him in several trades. I think your shooting low for a playoff warrior who is on a contract through his prime and it will age well.

I think this might make more sense for both teams...
Toffoli, Chiarot, 2021 3rd
for
Hanifin and a 1st with top 10 protection (any draft year the Flames want).

Valimaki for Toffoli? If Montreal is going to rebuild could be a good move for them.
That would be a really solid deal actually. Trading Hanifin and robbing a top pair D for 2RW is insanity. Trading Valimaki for Toffoli makes a ton of sense.

So Hanifin, 2nd and 3rd for Strome (UFA after this season, might not re-sign), Hajek, and two 4th's?

Awful, really awful for Flames. Downgrade Hanifin for Hajek, downgrade two picks, and add UFA. No thanks.

The Kings would be interested in Hanfin however i don't see why we need to include the rangers in the trade. I would offer Athansiou

For the trade above, I would also drop Rangers. Athanasiou however is not interesting piece enough for me.

I dont know Kings well enough to say. Vilardi, as mentioned above, would be interesting, but I dont know if Kings are willing to trade him at all in a deal for Hanifin.
Well okay what are the flames needs iyo ? Maybe I can find a fit with what we have.
