It all stems around if mgmt thinks he's worth the contract he's asking for. If the previous regime did, he'd probably be signed already. I agree, I don't think it's wise to move him even if he ends up overpaid by 1-2M.

Its not a great cap situation but it would be doable. An Engvall buyout would save a few dollars. Theres probably a team out there dumb enough to take Duclair after they miss out on a UFA. Pageau with 1 yr left could be moved to a team that wants an upgraded 3C.

Even if not Marner, I think ya'll could get Ehlers or Boeser. Still better to add one of the UFA wingers than it is to trade Dobson for an equivalent forward.

As a neutral fan I'd take that and run if I'm Dallas, but im not a big believer in Robertson.

Realistically its hard to see NYI getting better value for Dobson than that too, even if thats a trade I think they lose.
 
if a dobson trade is actually considered a young center in return should me a 'must', barzal is now on the wing so they really only have one top 6 center, they have one potential top 6 center prospect in danny nelson but he is a while away

if wright is available he should be a target, minny should be called regarding rossi, buffalo for peterka etc
 
Did Darche said anything about the direction of the team during his presser? Rebuild? Retool? Keeping the core and adding to it?

We just traded for one and he's probably making the team next year.

He didnt really touch on that outside of the fact that he feels like the team can compete and is a playoff team. I’m sure that’s something he wants to keep out of the public for now so writers don’t run wild with it. He talked more so how changes will be coming in the hockey ops department and everyone essentially is going to be evaluated. Essentially Roy gets to pick his own staff and both him and Darche will come to an agreement I’m sure about the direction the team will be headed in so there’s not arguments like he had with Lou.

Any new GM has to be realistic.

Lee, Pageau - 1 year left. Can work around any trade protection
Cziskas - 2 years left. Can still make a trade work.
Pellech, Pulloch, Mayfield - like 4-5 years left for each and a couple have full NTC right now
Barzal, Horvat, Sorokin - Have like 6 years left or more. In their prime
Dobson, Romanov - 25 but are 1 and 2 years out of UFA. So, direction of the team likely impacts their decision to want to stay or move on.

There are others with term but not impact players on the team.

Rebuilding might mean moving virtually everyone on that list above. Unless you can convince the 2 25 year olds to stick around for a rebuild when they wouldn't see the PO until they turn 30.

Figure, most likely is Darche moves on from the vets with minimal term. Aims to move 1 or 2 of the 3 Dmen with term. Unlikely to move that trio in their prime unless it's a hockey trade.

Determine whether one or both of Dobson/Romanov are going to be worth the contract they will be asking for as RFA.

I know about the contracts and I’m almost positive changes will happen. You can bring up contracts and everything about them without realizing that both ownership and management want to compete as well as make the team better. Does it mean blowing it up and taking everyone else’s hopes and dreams as well as cap dump garbage? No. Does it mean identifying the pieces they want to keep on the roster going forward and making changes for next year with the others? Yes 100%. It’s not even June 1st and he barely got here. Give him a few months to start to make moves instead of expecting everything overnight.

No, the Canucks aren’t getting any of Barzal, Horvat or Dobson for Mynio (or any of those overhyped prospects), a mid 1st rounder this year, cap dumps or EP40.

Dobson hasnt been the same since a hand/wrist injury at the tail end of 2023-24 . Isles medical staff obviously would know more .
 
I love the idea of a Roberston - Dobson swap (maybe other pieces balance things out if they need to be, but the basis is there).

I do wonder about a Dobson for Svechnikov as a potential for a deal?
I assume Orlov is coming back to help the young Russian blueliner, meaning Ghost and Walker would need to be moved to create room. Wonder what Canes would have to say to a Dobson + Duclair for Svechnikov and Ghost or Svechnikov and Walker.

We have Ritchie who can hopefully be top 6, Danny Nelson looking more like a 3C. But no problem with adding more C depth.

I don't think Minnesota needs him, and although I think he'd be a good partner for Power I'm not sure Buffalo goes for it.

for sure, was definitely looking at it more so from a one sided lens but i just see that Center depth being extremely lacking, especially since at minimum it would take the islanders 2 years to turn it around into a potential playoff team and then barzal and horvat are 30/32 respectively and by the time they are ready to contend those two players probably need to be replaced

so in essence you have two players that might be top 6 centers which is asking for a 100% hit rate which is a bad bet
 
Utah needs centers but if we get or trade for a center I say yes!! He's way better then what we have and could be a great fit for Serg.. help out our power play too. How was Dob at 3 on 3 in overtime?

Canucks need help up front more than a RHD. Hronek, Myers, and likely one of Mancini/Willander get the 3rd spot. Plus the Canucks currently have Hughes who would be their main offense PMD and PP1 QB. So, that wouldn't maximize Dobson's skills.
