Proposal: Noah Cates to the Leafs

I think Laughton's grit makes him the more attractive option. I can see him being a real plus in the play offs
He's not really gritty, or good defensively anymore. The Flyers play him at wing because of this.

But the Flyers management would rather die than trade Cates. He's probably getting a $40m extension soon.

I did read; the post didn't indicate affiliation. I just mistakenly presumed that "big market team trying to poach a rebuilder's good prospect" was more likely than "rebuilding team with an excellent player attempts to trade that player away". Should've looked more closely.

In my partial defense I was paying more attention to the Stadium Series reveal and so was posting distracted. Let my f***up be a lesson to others.
Flyers need more shots at high end talent. Desperately lacking that in the pool.

Leafs are going to take Cates and make Mexico pay for him.
lmao

say its game 7 rd 1, 1 min left and you're tied and you need a hard nosed 3c, and you got Cates and Laughton on the bench, who you tapping to jump over the boards?
Cates, definitely.

Cates is more effective because he's more cerebral with his play. Laughts if you want the rah-rah, good locker room guy. Cates more likely to be the guy who makes a deft poke check on Mcdavid to clear the zone. Laughts will bring energy, but Cates more in the way of substance and actual outcome on the game IMO

I would give up a 1st + another prospect outside of Minten or Cowan.

Tampa paid 2x 1st and 2x 4ths for Brayden Hagel. This package from the Leafs is comparable if not better imo and Hagel was both younger, better and on a better contract (position considered as well) compared to Cates at current time.

TBH either 1 would be a great add, but I wonder if the fact Cates is American and the fact Laughton is Canadian and more likely to be ok playing in Canada comes into play.

Generally the only way you get those is by being lucky.

Yes, you have to be lucky to get the opportunity to be lucky. It sucks sometimes. :(
They have 3 1sts and 3 2nd's in this draft, needless to say they can have any player they want in this draft with that asset set. I bet 1st OA would trade for 3 1sts.

Highly doubt that's any sort of consideration. Probably moreso revolves around age.

I doubt anyone is trading 10a for 3 1sts if they are late firsts. Chances of hitting on a first liner in the end of the first round is much harder never mind a star player. Most of the league's best players are drafted in the top 5.

Seems pretty steep for a guy who is on pace for 40 points
Does he project to be a 2C? If so then a 1st and Cowan would be worth while. Look he is on a terrible team so I take his point production with a grain of salt. Especially if he takes care of the defensive side of things.

Ummmm...Flyguy isn't Leafguy...

As for the actual proposal, Leafs fans think Cowan is a bonafide superstar so I don't see him being the prospect included
No, I don't. Neither do most other fans of the team. Most people think that his potential is top 6. He is a good prospect.

If those three firsts were 3, 4, and 10, I could see it. If they're 18, 20, and 23, not a chance in hell.
