The odd thing about Save percentage is I can think of 2 goalies with poor save percentage and good GAA with a lot of wins. Crawford and Halak.

GAA is definatley a team stat IMHO where as save % is the goalie stat.

Well, Crawford still has a 907 save %, better than Pavs. And he's playing behind a team that scores an unreal pace. So the Blackhawks are winning despite pretty poor goaltending. Halak also has 907 but he's starting to play a lot less now behind Elliot who has a 928 save %. Elliott, not by accident, has a far superior winning %.

Here is the thing. The less shots you allow the lower your goalies save percentage can be while maintaining the same goals against. Is this not understood by everyone?

matt leibl makes a very good argument about of how we really arent that much better than buffalo, calgary or edmonton...

We could be in that race soon enough but not yet.

Draft order (based on winning pct)

1 Buf .317
2 Edm .352
3 Cal .415
4 NYI .417
5 Fla .439
6 Cbs .488
7 Wpg .489

Scheifele could easily be running away with the rookie assist lead if our players could finish some of the point blank chances he's set up.

goes both ways for shecifs as far as im concerned.

I think the goal scoring will come with time. Right now they buzz around a lot and get their chances, but I think over time Scheifele and Kane will get smarter and more creative with each other. And I don't mean this as any type of put down on Frolik who I think has been great, but I think eventually you will see Wheeler getting more time with Scheifele and Kane. IMO the 3 of them might really click and we might see a true #1 line.

I am not objecting to bringing a goalie but I don't think it will magically make us a playoff team.

I look at these past 2 games this weekend so far. Would you fault either loses because of goaltending?

I would agree that it won't magically make us a playoff team but bringing in a good goalie would give us the largest tangible improvement.

From there we would need to shore up out the bottom 6 and change the d mix.

I think if that line had a better playmaker on RW they would be scary good. I wonder how Seto might look there. Don't know if he is enough of an upgrade to lose Frolik's aggressiveness and net drive.

Coach Noel - Assessment of the game. Thoughts on the Jets power play. Which zone was the area of concern? Did the team get anything from the fights in the 1st period? Where does this leave them having gone 0/2 on the trip? Is he prepared to say who will be goalie?

I will say one thing that is concerning is the play of Trouba lately. Not sure if its rookie bumps or if its bad culture rubbing off him. He sees vets giving up pucks, missed assignments, etc etc is it a case of monkey sees monkeys does. Hate for them to ruin him cause of idiot coaching.

Honestly, I think to some extent we've been blinded by the flash of Trouba's skills. Big, brilliant skater, confident style...what's not to like?

It's enough to make you forget that he's a 19 year old dman who's still adapting to the pro game. He still makes terrible reads at times, takes bad angles (like when he got walked by Krejci), and doesn't always know how to beat the forecheck.

So I wouldn't say his play has been concerning so much as a sobering reminder that he's still young and may not be the "can't miss kid" that everyone thinks he is. That being said, I'm pretty confident that he's going to be a great defenceman.

Whether it is Pavs or Monty, .862 sv.% gives us little chance to win.

I think he's still likely elite. He has seem a little confused the last 2 or 3 on some reads. Not sure what's changed. I don't mind him getting walked occasionally. He'll figure that part out. I don't want to coach passivity into to him.

Yup, bring in a Schene type player to play with Laddand Little in a Buff trade and we could have a very solid top 6.

Wins for a goaltender are a team stat. The Blackhawks and Blues win in spite of their goaltending, without Buffalo's goaltending they probably wouldn't have won a single game this year.

I attended one of the games against the Blackhawks this year, it was the one where the Jets shortly came back to tie it before losing it in the third. The game had no business even being that close though as Crawford was awful that game.

I worry the low set of standards this team possess is good for him.

I wouldn't fault either of the past 2 games on goaltending. Ottawa we should've won, but whatever. Boston is a very strong team and we shouldn't really expect to win.

But on the flip side, it's probably pretty easy to show that we've lost more games throughout the year due to goaltending than won games due to goaltending. It would've got us into the playoffs last year, and probably would make us a bubble playoff team this year, rather than a bottom feeder in the conference.

We probably will go on a win streak before the Olympic break and give everyone hope then fall back to earth after and end up with the 12th to 14th pick

Are teams maybe trying to get their toughs out vs. him at home? He did play most of that Ottawa game vs. the Sens best five-man unit. Haven't really analyzed it closely enough to see if it's a developing trend. I don't even think he's played poorly of late, just seems that he's had some Clitsome-esque moments recently.

I think pretty much anyone with some sense has given up on the playoffs already. On the flip side though I think the the fact that the Jets are in the West will do better for draft positioning. A top 5 pick this year would be great, might as well add more talent.

I think it's partially due to playing on the road and playing with Enstrom. He's playing top 4 and even non-rookie's have a few tough games.
