Condo My Dad Bought Me
46 year old fan, been obsessed with team since I was 5. Went on hunger strike when Guy Lafleur retired.

Can't bring myself to watch this year. Not because I don't care. Management has succeeded in making me not "like them".

Growing up, the Bruins, Flyers, Leafs etc. were mismanaged, mean-spirited etc.. The Habs were quite obviously "the good guys."

Under Bergeron they've lost all that. They represent the worst in terms of organizational behavioural now: arrogance, nepotism, xenophobia, trashing former players, not listening to and price-gouging of the client base.

Until he is fired, older fans will agree with me: we are officially in our "Ballard years."

An absolute nightmare for those of us who grew up on Dick Irvin, the Forum, Larry Robinson etc.

Ok. Just don't watch if/when they are a contender.

6'6 vs 5'10. He will get tossed around like bag of potatoes in front of the net.

So that means you should just say fack it and go hang out in the corner....lol

Enjoyed the Olympics and George Vezina send-ups: maybe I've become just a tiresome old diletennte, happens to most of us eventually. Apologies if I upset any of the young fans.

When I was younger, I hated older fans like myself. The blind passion and loyalty that I had for the team was so all-consuming that it superseded objectivity. Mismanagement didn't bother me as much....I had all the time in the world to see the team rebuild and rebound.

Not so anymore. The decisions Bergevin has made in the last two years have put us in a situation that will take almost a decade to recover from. What irks me most is that they were hasty, emotional and ill-thought-out. A rational person with a plan never would have made them. Willful self-destructii of something you've spent your whole life bleeding for is an incredibly upsetting thing to see.

Good point about the Chelios and Roy trades though. At that time, I found a way to rationalize them the way that you rationalize Bergevin and Molson now. It's a sign of a good and true-blue fan when you are there. It shows character as fans and all things considered, that's probably the most important thing.

Maybe I was hyperbolic about the Ballard and Milbury comparisons. What I remember about the Ballard years for Leafs fan was that they were devoid of hope. The comparison lays mostly in that's how I feel about the Habs now. No matter what good might happen, Bergevin will find a way to ruin everything.

It is sad however watching all you young guys rally against conventional wisdom now. Mediocre Habs teams are all you've ever known. You are victims in all this. But try to go easy on the old guys. You have nothing to compare it too so it hurts less for you.

What really sucks is the way it's going now I don't expect you ever will.

0 center depth, letting go key free agents that would help if they were going for it now (as the Weber trade, Drouin trade and Price extension would seem to indicate). Their plan is to put out a bottom 10 team and hope that a top 3 goalie will carry them into the playoffs where they can get bounced in the first or 2nd round. They don't want to risk going for the cup and don't want to lose the revenue that a rebuild would cause. Some plan.

Drouin hasnt even played a regular season game yet. Plus, some people think this franchise is like the bloody rangers! Not every player eants to sign hete you know. The best centre they could hope for is duchesne and sakic wants the world. Name me another centre they could possibly get at this point? As long as we're in a playoff spot come deadline time, we can make some moves.

I appreciate you're sharing this with us younger adults. I feel the passion and hopelessness in what you've wrote.

Upvoted.

As a hockeyfanatic, There is much better hockey to be watched elsewhere than wasted on this boring team with a bleak future. Now as a habscheerleader89, yeah go ahead and support that crap with your money.

I cannot wait to see how Antichambre and the rest of the media come up with a way to blame this on Galchenyuk . Or just talk about the game for 98 seconds and spend the rest dumping on Chucky
