46 year old fan, been obsessed with team since I was 5. Went on hunger strike when Guy Lafleur retired.

Can't bring myself to watch this year. Not because I don't care. Management has succeeded in making me not "like them".

Growing up, the Bruins, Flyers, Leafs etc. were mismanaged, mean-spirited etc.. The Habs were quite obviously "the good guys."

Under Bergeron they've lost all that. They represent the worst in terms of organizational behavioural now: arrogance, nepotism, xenophobia, trashing former players, not listening to and price-gouging of the client base.

Until he is fired, older fans will agree with me: we are officially in our "Ballard years."

An absolute nightmare for those of us who grew up on Dick Irvin, the Forum, Larry Robinson etc.

Uh, I hate MB but if you are really a 46yr old habs fan, you realize they old regime let Guy go to other teams, right? They all get rid of great players, Chelios.. Roy, Koivu.. the list is long.

Also, Druoin was a great move to please the fans, they finally got a young french star in the making, something the previous tools never did.

The fact some of you actually think Bergevin is "xenophobic" is the most absurd thing I've ever read.

Xenophobic a fitting descriptor: blind preference for francophones, Subban obviously, the recent purge (and scapegoating) of Russian players.

This is truly absurd. You realize MB is the one who brought Radulov, Galchenyuk, and Sergachev here in the first place right? And getting rid of Subban was because he was black... yet he drafted Addison and traded for Smith-Pelly... right.

Having french players is just necessary for the market however. The french media will meltdown if they don't have guys they can interview. That's just the nature of this market.

Stop with the virtue signalling and get a grip.

Apologies - Bergevin not Bergeron. Another sign of my detachment - ha ha.

Fellow old guys: I get what you're saying about how extended coverage creates increased comparison but I didn't feel this way under Savard, Gainey, Gauthier... only Bergevin. The other guys cared more about winning than appearing uncompromising in public and their job security.

He's one of the worst GMs in hockey history. I'm talking Milbury-esque. Worse than Benning. Take Price out of the equation and everyone would see that.

What's most concerning is that Molson allows it, even encourages it. Maybe because he's photogenic and personable? The old Molson regime would have placed competence and integrity over marketing. So agreed, social media seems to have negatively affected us in that regard.

Old guy out.

Some Habs fans are incredible

I watched Jean Beliveau hoist the Cup in 1971. Grew up as a teenager witnessing a 60-8-12 season. Saw Guy Lafleur score his 50th goal against the Kansas City Scouts. In the 80's the Habs still had a damn good organization run by Serge Savard. The 93 cup win was unexpected but awesome to watch!
Since Ron Corey cleaned house the Habs have been average at best over the past 20 + years.

Geoff Molson is directly responsible for this mess when he hired Bergevin who then hired all of his pals. This nepotism continues today and seems to only be worsening. The 8 year deal for Price and the 7.8 owed to Weber until he is 40 were both horrendous investments.

Those who say it's only preseason and fans need to chill are partially right. My concern is how unprepared and undeveloped so many of our prospects appear when lined up against other team's prospects.

I read above that we have arrived upon our version of the Ballard era. This I agree with. Not a playoff team.

I have been watching the habs for 40 years now, not going to stop now. What else am I going to do during the cold winter. Not a big fan of preseason games though.

Maybe no one cares because it's the preseason and the lineup for tonight's game is embarrassing. The team also hasn't been very good so far when it comes to scoring at even strength. Much better things to do on a beautiful Saturday night.

Just a thought.

Nothing Bergevin has done is even remotely close to that ******* Ballard. Until he sells the banners from the rafters the comparison is absurd.

I think a lot of folks don't care because of the direction this organization has taken this franchise.

This Ottawa team being iced tonight will skate circles around this AHL team. I do expect fireworks and so does Julien by dressing Broll

Bergevin is about as inept as Mike Milbury. This organization once upon a time would have never hired such a buffoon to run this iconic organization. It will continue to get worse.

I've been watching sports since the first Olympic games. Not the recent ones, mind, the first ones. I still got the fig leaf, I still got the olive oil. Anyway things have changed. For starters, everyone's wearing clothes! but you wanna talk about xenophobia you should have seen the lack of respect for people from Atlantis. But they deserved what they got, if you ask me. Anyway they had hockey there. Best rink you ever seen in your life. So there's this Atlantis kid, hockey player, see? He was called Hudonis. He lit it up in the preseason but you know what ended up happening?

edit: I'll save this OT story for another time.

Habs take this one 15-3.

Back in my day when I had season tickets watching George Vezina doing his best interpretation of a brick wall and the old barn filled with patrons caged like animals behind a steel curtain, that was when Canadiens hockey was at it's finest. That passion and glory has never been matched since. The roar from the stands when Howie Morenz would blaze up the ice alongside the wall we thought we were watching a comet in the sky.

Every year since those days has been a travesty and embarrassment to le bleu, blanc and rouge. The 70's were a fraud because that wasn't real hockey, there were too many teams and the talent pool was watered down.

Pew, spit on the team and what they've stood for since then.

Everyone upset about losing Markov and Radulov, but we are going to be a better team in the long run without those 2. In regards to losing Markov, we need to see what we have in Jerabek, and we have Mete not too far away either. As for Radulov, we are replacing him with everyones favourite Galchenyuk. Time is now for AG to show who he is.

If Galchenyuk replace Radulov
Who's replacing Galchenyuk?

It's not about replacing, it's about improving.

But seriously, Mete and Jerabek?????
We are not looking at the same preseason games.

The best prospect out there, he's been everywhere and he's going to make this team better......and i'm talking about : Cap Space.

Really impress by him at this camp.:sarcasm:

Again, nothing even close to Milbury. Bergevin's a decent GM with good moves and bad moves, Milbury's moves were some of the worst in NHL history.

It's increasingly hard to care for a team that charges exorbitant prices to see them live, in an arena that is more and more silent and filed with tourists. The club has lost his soul and when they had players who brought energy and personality, they were shipped.

Plus, it doesn't help they're a bunch of skilless hacks compared to some of the top teams.

What can Brown do to you.

Maybe we should keep an eye on the Buffalo game where Nate the Ingrate is a first pairing D. :sarcasm:
