Is Warmoth a thing now? Like he's looking very good at the plate and in the field....

The strike against him is that he's 25 and is behind the curve (he repeated a partial year in Dunedin and then looked kinda crappy in New Hampshire) but I think we've at least clawed back from "total failure" to "maybe there's something of value there"

Ryu, Stripling, Matz, Roark
Romano, Dolis, Chatwood, Phelps, Borucki, Mayza, Thornton, Merryweather
Jansen, Rowdy, Vladdy, Semien, Bo, Biggio, Gurriel, Grichuk, Teoscar
Panik, Kirk, Davis

Leaves 2 more spots, 1 of which is a starter, the other of which is Springer if and when he's healthy.

Damn looks like we've reached the climax of McGuire jokes

I suppose it's not impossible that they would keep 3 catchers for the first little bit just to see if they can work out a deal for McGuire or in case Kirk falters.
But for the most part it appears Reese won't get a happy ending.

Mayza was on a minor league deal....is there a roster spot waiting for him (or Liriano)?

Is Merryweather confirmed? I'm a little surprised because he's only thrown one inning so far. I assumed they would want to get him a bit more work in (even just in simulated games).

He came up short this year.

It will be hard to get back up if Kirk plays well

Was Tellez’s spot ever in question? Wondering what that conversation was like.

Montoyo: Rowdy, you made the team! Congratulations.

Rowdy: Thank? You?!?!?!?

Yeah, that seems like an odd addition. After the season he had in 2020, spring training was just getting ready for the regular season for him rather than battling for a job.

He's got to be careful though. They'll want him to keep a strong grip on himself while he's not playing, but he has to be careful not to get too excited trying to work himself back into the lineup, because the last thing he needs is to just go off prematurely in training and be unable to rise to the occasion if the Jays need him again.

I thought he was being stretched out to be a starter (which I thought was dumb, but that's me)?

I don't see a good reason for them to keep 3 catchers. Do we even think McGuire will get claimed? Even if he does, we have Riley Adams ready to go.

I thought I had saw a tweet yesterday from one of the media guys talking about how Merryweather would break camp with the team but I can't find it, and I missed them all tweeting today about the last spot being between him and others. I could see them wanting to give him more time I guess but I don't really see them adding Liriano or Castro to the 40 man for a week before Merryweather is ready to come up and then what? That seems like cutting someone from the 40 man for not much gain. I guess they could use Bergen or Zeuch or someone else already on the 40 until he's ready.

That was mentioned in the offseason and I think everyone thought it was dumb. I believe his spring injury has caused them to come to their senses though.

I don't think the intent would be to keep 3 catchers long-term. It might just be that they would hang onto Mcguire long enough to make sure Kirk is fine and see if they can find anyone willing to trade a sack of baseballs or some Dollar Tree gift cards for Reese rather than just cutting him for nothing.
