SWR has been really good thru two innings.

Just struck out Judge to end the inning.

Vlad also made a really nice double play.

Thornton had a really nice start, too. 3 IP, 3 H, 1 BB, 3 K against basically the Yankees starting lineup. If he's decent it would be huge considering the injury issues with the pitching staff so far.

SWR looks great! Him and Monoah have us in great hands going forward.

Gotta love the Yanks broadcast guys blowing smoke up Judge & Stanton asses lol

Don't worry Yankee fans they will be on the injured list soon.

He just struck out Estrada with an insane curveball.

Not having a full 2020 minor league season really hurt us from a developmental perspective. Sure everyone had that issue but unlike teams like the Yankees and Red Sox, we have multiple blue chip prospects that would have played last year, got valuable innings and moved up to through the system where they could be relied on to make impacts early this season; like SWR and Manoah. Now we have to bring them along slowly and watch their development where they might be ready much later in the season, if that.

If Manoah and/or SWR had full 2020 seasons, there is no doubt they would both have finished at least at the AA or, likely the AAA level and ready to make the team now. Long term we will be fine but on the short term we have to wait a little longer for players like Manoah, SWR, Groshans etc. which kind of sucks for the 2021 and 2022 team.

A rotation of;

Ryu
Ray
Roark
Matz
Stripling

would have been great, especially if Manoah and SWR were waiting in case one or more in the current rotation were ineffective or hurt.

Could easily have next year's rotation of;

Ryu
Pearson
Manoah
SWR
Stripling

ready to battle for spots, then we grab FA arms to provide you with insurance innings. It likely still will happen at some point but the developmental curve has been delayed temporary which impacts the front end of our window.

McCullers got $85M over 5 from Houston. Damn. Really wanted him, he is going to have a huge season. I thought he undersold himself. With a solid season he is getting a Wheeler type contract if he were a FA.

He is having an unreal spring.

Can he be sent down?

Blue Jays' Anthony Castro: Outrighted to Triple-A

He was claimed off waivers from Detroit in December. We put him on waivers in January to make room for Chatwood, where he subsequently cleared. So he isnt on the 40 man.

If the Jays want him on the big league roster then he has to be added to the 40 man. After that, then yes he can be sent down as he has 2 options left.

I really want Espinal, Castro, and Bergen/Mayza at this point.

But we're going to get Panik, Cole, and Liriano.

I dont mind Cole and Liriano, even Panik for that matter, as long as they are on short leashes and we dont stick with them forever.

The guys without options always get a raw deal.

The Blue Jays Bullpen Should Be Okay Without Kirby Yates

However the Blue Jays decide to deploy their bullpen, the loss of Yates hurts their overall depth. Moving everyone back one inning means that at some point a pitcher will get exposed to a high-leverage inning when they shouldn’t be. Blue Jays general manager Ross Atkins indicated he would consider outside additions to cover for the loss of Yates, and there are a handful of options both available on the free-agent market — Shane Greene should be expecting a call soon — and soon to hit the waiver wire as teams cut their rosters down in preparation for Opening Day. But even if they don’t bring in another reliever, the Jays have plenty of intriguing options to handle high-leverage innings already in house.

Of course having a healthy Yates would have been great but with the additions of Chatwood and Phelps to join a pretty solid bullpen from 2020 with the exception of a few weeks. Im confident we will be ok.

Romano, Dolis, Chatwood, and Phelps in the back end to go with a mix of guys like Borucki, Merryweather, Cole, Liriano, Kay, Thornton, Bergen, Mayza, Castro etc. isnt terrible. Always have a Manoah, Pearson and/or SWR that could help.

Fangraph's Position Ranking:

2021 Positional Power Rankings: Catcher: Tied for 4th, 0.4 fWAR behind 2nd place
2021 Positional Power Rankings: First Base: Tied for 5th, 0.4 fWAR behind 2nd
2021 Positional Power Rankings: Second Base: 4th place
2021 Positional Power Rankings: Shortstop: 5th place
2021 Positional Power Rankings: Third Base: 9th place

Pretty much top 5 at every infield position. I expect LF and RF to be top 10 and CF to be top 3, DH maybe, top 7. Starters will be top 15 and the bullpen somewhere around there.

Jays ranked 9th at 3B is a positive in my eyes as everyone above us is star player; Ramirez, Bregman, Rendon, Chapman, Machado, Donaldson, Arenado, and Devers. Outside of maybe an injured Donaldson or an off year from Devers, you cant ask for much better.

The Jays ranked ahead of guys like Turner, Moncada, Bryant, and Urshela is a big positive.

That’s incredible value (assuming he remains healthy, which is a caveat for all pitchers).

Top 10 for both RF and LF would surprise me. Aren't projections still pretty low on Gurriel?
