Everybody taking pot shots can kiss my ass especially those south of our border. The WJC enjoys the status that it does because of 40 plus years of Canadian involvement.

Canada has done more than its fair share of building the game of hockey at all levels and age groups internationally.

Hockey Canada is fully deserving of all the "pot shots" aimed at them, just FYI

Couple things at play here...

1. Tough spot for Canadians to be in. You obviously want to support these new kids at the WJ's, but maybe you don't want to give money to Hockey Canada. I don't think theres anything wrong with wanting them to win gold, despite the sins of the kids in the past - and the org/cover up. The kids grew up watching this tourny around Christmas, and this might be their only chance to play in it.

2. Ticket prices are insane. $100+ to watch Latvia v Canada? Get out.

3. Maybe Hockey Canada should have been removed from this tournament, and replaced with "Team Canada" or "Athletes from Canada" like what we saw from Russia in the Olympics.

What should USA play under after USA Hockey responded to the Reid Boucher situation by... moving him to a different billet house? Boucher of course actually being a convicted sex offender, unlike the Canadian players who to this point have not even been charged. Athletes from USA?

Of course Hockey Canada deserves "pot shots" aimed at them. I've long been critical of Hockey Canada and at every level. I have never said they didn't however hockey in Canada is not all about Hockey Canada FYI.

Are tickets always this expensive? We’re going to Nova Scotia but I’m not paying those prices. Is there a secondary market? If not I’ll find a bar and watch it on tv.

Of course not, but there's quite clearly a correlation between the stink emanating from Hockey Canada currently, and the fan apathy that is clearly on display with this year's WJCs.

Who's to say when any of the main sponsors return to the fold, either. Will they be back by the 2023 WJCs?

Will Russia, for that matter?

Who knows.

It’s both the time of year and the pricing. There should be one ticket for all the days games. But if you’re charging $180 for lower bowl, you’re more than pricing out the people most likely to go, which are bored kids looking for things to do in the summer. You could definitely get some day camps to bring in a bunch of kids for $10

Wow Hockey Canada blows hard. I don't understand how you can screw up a tournament not once but TWICE. Unbelievable. Pure incompetence and greedy shills running the shit show.

We'll see if Hockey Canada is stupid enough to try the same ticketing price in Nova Scotia, where there is significantly less money floating around. After this debacle it would make sense to lower prices... doesn't mean it will happen.

Canada has about 8 weeks of decent weather a year and that is happening now.

Also, the Hockey Canada scandals
I don't think the average fan thinks all that much about the Hockey Canada scandal. The timing of the event (especially as priced) is the major factor. It doesn't help there is going to be another WJC in a few months.

Yeah I think that's fairly true. People are generally aware of it but it isn't a big topic of conversation anywhere I've been. In large part because hockey isn't as big of a topic as it was before, which is a different issue for this tournament. Certainly the scandal is a negative for the tournament but I wouldn't put it up with timing and price when it comes to reasons for the pitiful attendance at this tournament.

If you're referring to the forfeits of the earlier tournament, that's on the IIHF. Their rules.

The fact that the Oilers had a long playoff run and so did the Oil Kings is likely another factor. People are probably a bit ''hockey fatigued'' in Edmonton and not willing to pay crazy prices to watch non-Team Canada games in the first part of tournament in the middle of summer.
I think it was an odd/poor decision to hold it in Edmonton again for the reasons you stated.

Dont know if there was an alternative but usually several Canadian cities clamor for it.

A few guesses:
Hockey Canada scandals
Not best-on-best, so it doesn't matter
The time of year, when ppl have other things to do
Canada being more diverse and Canadians being turned off by hockey's lack of inclusivity
Decline in people playing hockey because the sport is too expensive

In recent times, yes, the prices have been unreasonable the last few times the tournament was held in Canada.

I agree with you, these prices are ridiculous. It's a despicable model too because they insist on charging premium prices for the games involving less popular nations. They could easily get more attendance with reasonable prices and complimentary tickets to hockey youth organisations but instead end up with empty seats.

Hockey Canada and its puppet, the IIHF, should both burn and be replaced.
