I'm fairly convinced Kovalchuk comes from the same planet as Adrian Peterson. Neither one of them can be human.

Well, to be fair, Kovy plays in such a way as to allow him to log those minutes. He's become sound enough defensively that he can get into position without scrambling and wasting effort. Outside of that he really never goes all out. Almost looks like he's just taking it easy out there. Considering how effective he's been this is quite amazing. The exciting thing is that come playoff time he can elevate his play to another level. Doesn't have to leave anything on the table whereas now he almost seems to conserve energy out there.

-sloppy as hell

-kovy is amazing

-tallinder seemed to just get exposed repeatedly. pete’s plan of sitting a seemingly random defensemen for 3-5 games or whatever seems awfully arbitrary and not conducive to getting us wins (despite the win)

Didn't notice Matteau much except for a few bad plays. Not good for a youngster but he also sat out a few so maybe some rust? Who knows.

Since Clarkson has gone a bit quiet recently and since he is a bit banged up I would mind Loktionov with Elias and Henrique.

Also I would like to see PDB switch Loktionov for Bernier on the 2nd PP unit.

Would just like to put out there that all 3 of those players you would like to see on that line all desire to play center.

I liked the stretch where it seemed like Kovy and Ovechkin were just trading rushes. It was like they were trying to outdo each other. It was giving me heart attacks at the time, But it was exciting.

This was my favorite part of the game too. It was a Russian rivalry. Idk what anyone says Ovi is still good. He's gonna turn it around I hate how people are so down on him

btw did anyone notice where ovi was on their PP? THAT’S where kovy needs to be, IMO. and of course, I don’t think he should just be there on the PP, but I won’t rehash that. kovy on the point is a decent option, and a good one to have in the back pocket, but IMO he should be by the circle

That bit in the 2nd they both did. Kovy had the goal, but just couldn't angle it in, then Ovi went down on a rush and blew it as well. Kovy was just an animal in the third last night. Before the penalties started raining down he was keeping shifts alive almost by himself with his play.

Loki did look good, he was noticeable all night, so was Butler. I think that could be a strong line with Zubs when he comes back. Loki won that faceoff clean and leads to his own goal. Wonders what clean offensive zone face off wins do huh.

Zajac and Henrique will break their slumps soon and that should get us rolling again. Still...PLAY FAYNE TOMORROW!!!

I'd love to see Moose on Sunday, always enjoy good Moose calls, but he might get the call Saturday since it is such an early game.

Henrique did get a point yesterday. Remains to be seen if he will build on it.

Adam's clearly in a rut lately, not just with scoring but he's not making the usual little plays that we are used to seeing from him.

He's too good of a player not to get out of this slump.

Too bad Matteau didn't play so well but that's to be expected. Had we still had a healthy Zubrus and Carter, I think Matteau would've been sent down....

its so funny to hear about these ‘slumps’

one period with:

Kovalchuk---Zajac---Henrique

and this board would be wetting themselves with optimism.

With Zajac its more than a slump...2 pts in 14 in the Sahara Desert of slumps. It has effected Kovys production too. Not as sure with Henrique. He needs to shoot a bit more. He has 14 shots all year,,,,14 playing 17 plus min every night. Not to bring up his name, and I know Apples and Oranges but Parise had a 12 shot game the other night. Yes both are doing the other things but we dont have the offensive players for our two top line C to contribute so little offensively

After last night I have come to the conclusion when Ovechkin or Kovalchuk get a full strength shot off close range on net its almost impossible to stop.

i agree 100%. and i've been saying we're having 1st line problems for a while. to me, the solution is real easy.

I really want to see Lokti play with Kovy. He's been out there with Kovy and Elias on 2 different occasions and we could have easily gotten 2 goals out of it.
