We basically got a free 2nd round pick.

Though I wish we could hop in a DeLorean and get Marc Savard from 10 years ago on this team. He was one of the best playmaking centers I've ever seen.

Am I wrong in saying the cap space/floor is still basically irrelevant since the contract will go on LTIR? We basically just paid 4M dollars for a 2018 2nd. I'm guessing it's like Columbus and Horton where they didn't want to burn money on somebody not playing.

LTIR only happens if you go over the ceiling. Clowe and Savard go against our cap at the moment.

extra 3rd and 4th this year.
extra 2nd in 2017
extra 2nd and 3rd in 2018.

...in addition to all of our own picks (except 2017 3rd, but we have Colorado's (for Gelinas)).

So 2016: Two thirds (none of our own) and two 4ths
2017: Two seconds and Colorado's 3rd
2018: Two seconds and two 3rds

We can do some juggling with that. Send a third and 4th to Chicago to sweeten the deal to get TT.

Meh. This doesn't bode well for landing a big FA this offseason if we're trading for cap space

The pick is an asset that won't play for at LEAST 5 years. If they ever play in the NHL.

And FC Florida is going to be good for a while. So this is a low round pick.

Jim is going to be very sad.

We just put him on LTIR on day 1 of training camp? All this does is take away most of our 10% overage combined with Clowe. It doesn't affect our cap space in season..

Kind of sucks we lose our third to Pitt this year, but don't get a third from Toronto until 2018. Guess that is on Shero for not waiting?

up to whatever they negotiated

Pitt coulda said we can't have Hynes unless its a 3rd next year, etc.

we lost our next 2 3rds for ****ing asinine reasons though. A broken compensation rule and ****ing Ruutu

Ya losing that pick for Ruutu blows. We get a third back from Toronto so it almost events out, but we should of maybe taken a harder line on what year.

I heard that the 2nd we got in the Savard deal was Vancouver's, which Florida just received in the Gudbranson deal.

I dunno.. according to both the Devils and Florida press releases, it says Florida's 2nd.

Could be Vancouvers but gonna keep as FLA until we see a source on that.

TSN and NJ.com both say Florida's 2018 pick.

Edit: Also the only 2nd round pick from Vancouver that Florida has is this year's (and it is their only 2nd this year as well). Vancouver has their own pick in 2018 and so did Florida.

Basically you traded cap space you weren't going to use for a 2nd rounder. Shero did very well here, and if it's Vancouver's its even better because its closer to a 1st rounder.

Edit: saw it was a 2018 pick, my bad. Still a very good use of assets.

we didn't even trade cap space. it's an LTIR deal. we traded the 10% bonus cushion in the offseason.

Is Ray getting ready to package picks to move up to 3?

I doubt it. I think that price is going to be higher than he's going to want to pay. Plus, as has been said by others, I doubt Columbus is really looking to trade down unless somebody blows their socks off with an offer.
