Glad to see home cooking working for Palmieri. Regardless of his play with the Ducks, he always seemed to light it up when he returned back on the annual NJD/NYR/NYI roadtrip. He picked a great time to have a career year so he certainly earned his contract :handclap:

Amazing how Ray Shero gets run out of PIT for being a bum and then lands in NJ and now he's become a "GM god".

Having watched him play, moreso in Anaheim than NJ, and looking at his numbers. When I have watched him he doesn't have a very good shot, he isn't tough, he isn't shifty and isn't a great passer.

There is nothing in his game that is impressive or indicates to me that he will be a decent scorer at the NHL level.

Maybe the 30 goals would be an indicator idk

fair analysis. well clearly here devils fans don't see his season of play as a top 6er as being a flukey season, so perhaps your mind is changed, we'll see!

He has a fantastic shot. His one timer is easily the best the Devils have had since Kovy and easily one of the better one timers in the NHL. He's the main reason the Devils PP was top 10 despite having little talent.

And he's a very tough player for a guy who's not all that big. His board play is tremendous, he's defensively responsible and he's a good passer. You clearly don't know at all what you're talking about.

I don't think you're remembering the right player. Palmieri has a great shot with a wicked release. By looking at his numbers, you would see that he scored 30 goals this season and that you're completely out to lunch.

Maybe you're thinking of Emerson Etem.

Based on what?

How often do we see career 3rd liners have a good season and then get over paid? It happens every year.

Mason Raymond
Foligno
Komarov last year scored 20 goals and is a career 4th liner.

You can point to whatever stat to justify it, but the same arguments are made every time. Sometimes guys over achieve.

Dont mind the Flames fan he/she is clearly clueless abour Palmieri.

The contract is a steal, I was expecting over 5m per. Great job Shero, been one of the best GMs this off-season. I mean look at what he has done, he shed ALL of the dead weight, got some steals of contracts, and got Hall?

Top 3 GM this year so far.

This is a really solid deal. Confirms that we overpaid Smith by about 400-500K per year.

Looks like a really good contract right after Reilly Smith, who's an easy comparable.

Who would you rather have? Palmieri for 5 years/$4.65M or Smith for 5 years/$5M?

We don't crucify our good players here in NJ. That's for you guys to do in Toronto, and destroy their character, morale and such. Palms will be fine.

Why are we talking about career 3rd liners in a thread about a signing if a top 6 winger?

Palmieri because he did what he did on an AWFUL forward roster.

Doesnt make Smith any better or worse. Both are great players and Id like both to be honest

Except, you know, the 30 goals.

Also what's this nonsense about not having a good shot? Watch the video and see how many shots he bombs from outside the circles, snipes off the rush, and threads through from impossible angles.

except, again, his points/60 minutes is actually right in line with where it has been his entire career.

He just got more playing time and a bigger role, so he produced more.

Good deal with the possibility of being great.

Anyone else think he looks like a paler (more pale?) Jordan Schlansky from Conan O'Brien's show?
