Damn if this is the market my canucks better start selling!
Good move for the quack attack. They are going to be a force soon.

Great dealing by Anaheim. Hopefully this means that Mintyukov and Zellweger won’t be constantly yo-yo-ing in and out of the lineup anymore there.

Zell has been sitting waaay too much lately, this is huge in that respect. Dumoulin has been quite solid, I think he's rebuilt his value after falling off a bit in the later seasons in Pitt and last year in Seattle - but in the bigger picture it makes sense for the Ducks to free up this spot.

Lacombe, Mintyukov, Zellweger, Trouba, Gudas and Helleson can be the six regulars this year, with Luneau looking to force his way in next season. They'll have to find some sort of seventh D stop gap for now though, expecting some sort of cheap acquisition by tomorrow. They won't want to hurt the AHL club's chances of making playoffs by taking from there.

Dumo has had a solid bounce back season (would rather have had him in Colorado than Lindgren I think), but this is definite TDL surcharge pricing. While Traff is no guarantee to be anything, he’s a pretty nice tax for Anaheim to get on top of the expected 2nd rounder.

These 2nd rounders truly are the rental currency of the deadline, that’s for sure. If you are even an average third liner or #5 defenseman and your contract is retained and expiring - the bidding starts at a 2nd. That is crystal clear. No contending team is going to have qualms throwing 2nds to the wind this deadline. Edmonton, Minnesota, Colorado and now New Jersey have made “2nd for depth rental” trades in the last week.

He was very solid and a steadying veteran presence for a young team. A good solid bottom pairing d-man for playoff caliber teams. Whether that's worth a 2nd and a prospect, that's for debate.

EDIT: Should've said 4/5 guy, but not a 6th dman.
Presuming Edmonton & Winnipeg make it out of the first round that is a pretty late 2nd (they get the best of one of those) so decent but not earth shattering. Probably about right for someone, with retention, who's shown they still can be effective in the right role & also provides the vet's/Cup winning perspective.

On the surface a 'win' for Anaheim considering what they earlier traded him for, but not horrible for New Jersey either.

Fitz trying to save his job? The Devils would have a tough time making a run fully healthy but definitely are not going to compete without Hughes, Hamilton, and Siegs.

Don’t understand this for them.

The problem is the Devils aren't a contending team at this point.

If a contending team made this trade, it would be considered a terrible overpay.

When a team with no hope of contending- - like New Jersey - - makes this trade, it’s getting to the point where the league needs to step in and veto the deal to save them from themselves.
