Great dealing by Anaheim. Hopefully this means that Mintyukov and Zellweger won’t be constantly yo-yo-ing in and out of the lineup anymore there.
Once Rantanen gets here….,I get that, but without Hughes, what's the point of wasting some relatively decent assets to try and limp into the playoffs?

Presuming Edmonton & Winnipeg make it out of the first round that is a pretty late 2nd (they get the best of one of those) so decent but not earth shattering. Probably about right for someone, with retention, who's shown they still can be effective in the right role & also provides the vet's/Cup winning perspective. He was very solid and a steadying veteran presence for a young team. A good solid bottom pairing d-man for playoff caliber teams. Whether that's worth a 2nd and a prospect, that's for debate.
EDIT: Should've said 4/5 guy, but not a 6th dman.
Ya we prob still need to find a vet 6/7 guy imoGreat dealing by Anaheim. Hopefully this means that Mintyukov and Zellweger won’t be constantly yo-yo-ing in and out of the lineup anymore there.
Sustr available?Ya we prob still need to find a vet 6/7 guy imo
Don’t want to call up Luneau or hinds to set in box
Tell that to Coco Crisp.Herman Traff isn’t a real name
The problem is the Devils aren't a contending team at this point.Dumo has had a solid bounce back season (would rather have had him in Colorado than Lindgren I think), but this is definite TDL surcharge pricing. While Traff is no guarantee to be anything, he’s a pretty nice tax for Anaheim to get on top of the expected 2nd rounder.
These 2nd rounders truly are the rental currency of the deadline, that’s for sure. If you are even an average third liner or #5 defenseman and your contract is retained and expiring - the bidding starts at a 2nd. That is crystal clear. No contending team is going to have qualms throwing 2nds to the wind this deadline. Edmonton, Minnesota, Colorado and now New Jersey have made “2nd for depth rental” trades in the last week.
