Confirmed Trade: [NJD/ANA] Brian Dumoulin (50% retained) for 2025 2nd round pick and Herman Traff

NJ delivered a bit of an overpayment but apparently they traded one of their 3 second round picks which will lower (closer to a third).

It seems like the D-man market is thin so an overpayment was probably required to get the deal done a day ahead of the deadline. A bird in hand (with retention) is arguably worth the overpayment.

Dumo will be very good as a 4/5 Dman on a good team. He played well for the ducks and will be missed.

I think its a bit of an overraction by Devils fans. A career plus 100 defensively responsible 2 time cup winner. I do not care about picks. I want to win now. Everyone knows that Fitz is going to get a forward or two as well. There is probably as much of a chance we win the cup then this prospect or 2nd ever amounting to anything.

I don't think this is the time for New Jersey to be overpaying for rentals.

I'll always love Dumoulin, but he's been firmly a third pairing guy for a while now. Not sure that overpaying for Cup experience is the move you make when your best player is out for the season.

Then again Dumoulin won the second of those Cups on a team that lost its #1 defenseman and replaced him with a 36 year-old with zero playoff experience...weirder things have happened.
The Devils needed a veteran LD and they got one. Not a big overpayment. Fitzgerald is trying to save his job.

I don't think Dumoulin is good enough to have a shortened nickname personally
Dumo was arguably the Pens 2nd best dman in 2016 and played #1 minutes en route to a Cup victory in 2017.

2x Cup Champ: Easiest nickname criteria of all time.

Love this as a ducks fan, dumo started wearing out his welcome with me so happy to see it

If Hamilton and Siegenthaler are out for awhile then what's the point? I guess playoff experience would be good and we don't have a 1st anyway.
That's literally why you don't do this trade.

But missing Hamilton and Siegenthaler is probably WHY you would make this trade. But without your best player coming back? You're moving yourself further out of the draft and are still probably a first or second round exit regardless of what you did at the trade deadline.

The Devils are NOT a championship contending team, they can't get away with making these moves. They would still value young players and valuable second round picks. You could have signed Dumoulin for free in free agency in a couple of months lol.
