My issue with this trade is that our defense turns serviceable goaltenders into pumpkins.

But assuming it only costs a 3rd to potentially demonstrate that again, it might be worth it. I mean, if Allen comes in and shits the bed that HAVE to clean house on all things goaltending at the coach/evaluation level.

Raanta cleared waivers, every single team in the league passed on him for free. He's cooked. Allen's numbers aren't quite as bad as they look, MTL's defense is pretty atrocious.

Clearly we were looking for more than just someone to be a punching bag this season.

Allen is a significant upgrade over Vanecek at about half the salary and should at worst be the backup next season.

And wheres your proof that Allen is 'a significant upgrade'?

The entire league knows we need a goalie. You think they are going to just give you one?

We could have gotten Allen for a 5th if we take his full deal on, we got 50% retained. This is nothing to be worked up about.
