? is moot to extent unless/until we deal at least Strome to start, we need to 2 spots for Gauthier, who we are keeping and Hajek who we are moving, but we have to up his value first.
Either of these guys forced, neither gets thru waivers.

Jones starts in the A.
Nils has a bomb for a shot which nobody else has.
They got Nemeth to work acclerate acclamating him to NHL.
Nils stays.

Doubt Gauthier is here on opening day.

Nemeth being peniciled in? A lock? Lol. Only on a bad organization would that even be a thought. Blocking a NHL ready, high end prospect with great upside for a solid 7 in Nemeth is idiotic

This would be like if the Yankees sent Judge back to AAA or traded him in 2017 because they had Hicks in RF. No Yankee fan would rationalize that. Somehow I get the feeling that if Nils or Jones is moved some of the usual shills will do their thing and defend the move with their life.

nemeth is much better than a "solid #7" lol

Also... You don't sign Nemeth and Goodrow to those deals to have them "earn their spot" in camp.

There's a big difference between the Goodrow deal (6x3.6) and the Nemeth deal. (3x2.5)

I absolutely agree that Nemeth starts off no matter what. I would, however, posit that if another young defenseman simply blows the doors off in Hartford early that he could very easily end up a #7 by partway through the season.

And that would be a very good problem to have. It's far more likely that we have an injury in the top 4 leading to Nemeth having to play up there, like Steve Eminger did a few times.

But this is all gravy considering last season we had pairings of Miller-Smith and Hajek-Bitteto when Trouba was out. Utter calamity.

Miller is a lock. No doubt. Even if he is outplayed by several young players, he'll win a spot based on what he showed for parts of last season. That's not to say he sticks all season if he struggles, but he has a spot to start the year. 100%.

Nemeth is also a lock. They signed him to play. Again, if he sucks hard, maybe he becomes the 7th during the season, but to start the year there is no chance he's not in the lineup when the season starts.

I'd pick Jones.

Jones, Nils, Robertson and Schneider. All four are great prospects to have. We probably will only keep two of the four in the end because we already have skilled defensemen.

May not be what fans want to hear, but agreed.

please find a way

Voted Jones because I think he is our best path to a blue-chip C prospect. If we are going by the incredibly small sample size, Jones could be in a Calder conversation with our forward talent/proper usage. His value would be insane and we could actually comfortably afford to move him for fair value. Good times.

FWIW I don’t find the narrative that Lundkvist could replace Miller on the left side at all compelling. Given that Nils has had some time on the left and that the SHL is one of the best leagues in the world the NHL is still a whole different animal and especially for an undersized rookie defenseman still to play his first NHL game. Further playing on the wrong side requires that D-man to be on his backhand and facing away from the forecheck a lot. The NHL is more physical with significantly harder forechecking and it would be a dangerous situation to place a rookie still to play his first game and kind of scrawny to boot—in.

I keep both Jones and Lundkvist on the 23 man roster.Dryden Hunt as the 13th forward Tinordi as the 8th D that only plays when 2 D's are hurt/rested.I don't want Tinordi dressing as 7th D very much.Last year Miller got worn down I expect the same for Jones and Lundkvist this year as well.Jones is very valuable as he plays both sides.
Fox Lindgren
Trouba Miller/Jones
Lundkvist/Jones Nemeth

Tinordi as Emergency 8th in case of needed muscle in certain games or 2 D's injured/rested .

Jones + Schneider for 3rd pair. Better balance, ups both of their trade values. Nils benefits more by adjusting to NA hockey in the AHL.

If Nemeth stays, then Nils probably stays.
If you send Lundkvist down to the AHL, you might just as well loan him out to Luleå in the SHL for another season. What's the point of playing in an inferior league with less practice? To adjust to small ice doesn't take miracles, then it's better he actually becomes better at his primary skills. I don't trust the NYR and especially not Hartford to develop and improve players.

Or you trade him. If the log jam at defense is so huge in New York, it's downright disrespectful to keep a bunch of players that deserve a better chance elsewhere.
