So a rookie dman sat a few games while the veterans started out the season. Welcome to normal. It isn't like he had a good preseason, he didn't. He showed up or if shape, refused to go to the ahl under any circumstances. Did we see stecher sulking like this? Primadonna BS.

Agree 100%. Another example of a pouting Russian. Anyway, I don't think he was going to be another Chara so let's just move on.

Disputes between coaching and players are one thing. Why couldn't management smooth this over? Why wasn't Nikita locked down before this? Why wasn't he factored into the long-term picture and treated as such? The whole thing is completely unacceptable.

The whole vibe Tryamkin had at the press conference now makes sense. He hated this organization.

You can't do anything but laugh at this point. What a complete disaster.

Surely they knew this was a possibility and he wasn't happy, and he was just left playing 16 minutes/game all season, even when he had clearly earned more icetime on a terrible team going nowhere.

And this is why Gillis has the policy he had with Russians. For all the criticism he took, it doesn't seem so dumb now, does it?

Hopefully some good can come of this if it turns more fans against this pathetically incompetent administration.

So disappointing. One of the only positives to look forward to.

Tryamkin is a huge marketing opportunity. What hockey fan wouldn't want to pay to go see a 6'8 giant with elite level skating for his size and a physical game? He can easily be marketed as 'the next Chara' that casual fans would drool over. He's like the Sedins... You don't get many players that are as big as him that can play the way that he does... Just like you never see two twins that are as good as the Sedins...

Hopefully with this loss, Aquilini imagines quite a few bags of money burnt to ash with the potential jersey and ticket sales that Trammer could have brought. Our team is literally the most boring team to watch in the NHL. We just lost one of our only remaining exciting players. Please let this be a big step to getting the front office sacked.

I don't disagree with the gist of what you just said, but that's also not the entire story either. Tryamkin was waiting to play his first game. And when Tanev went down with an injury, Stecher was called up and played his first game. Not Biega, not him. But a rookie callup from the AHL. Now we can all say that that makes sense because Stecher had shown chemistry with Edler in the preseason and has potential, but how could that have sit tight with Tryamkin? It's hard for a player like Tryamkin who doesn't spend his time thinking about these things to accept that. Tryamkin was lured to the NHL by the prospect that he would play in the NHL or be sent back to the KHL. If the Canucks didn't think he deserved to be on the team he could have been sent back. If the Canucks don't want to play him, he could be sent back. Keeping him out of games while the veterans played and he works on his conditioning is one thing, calling someone up to play when he's been waiting to play is another.

And as much as I want to say primadonna good riddance, the fact is his ego doesn't matter if he can back it up on the ice and isn't a problem in the dressing room and he has the potential to back it up on the ice. I would have love to see how Tryamkin develops in the next season or two. This really sucks.

The NHL? Can't blame him.

Not sure any other team would have agreed to the 'unheard of' AHL out clause. Any team would have given him the shortcut out from the ELC though. He was coddled and left anyway. Many here would have sent him back to Russia for the AHL thing. Make a qualifying offer to keep his rights, leave the door open, but move on.

And having Willie D as a coach bites us in the ass once again. Well ... now I guess we lose a dman because if one crappy coach, but at least we get a 2nd rounder from another.

And how many GMs have been able to "avoid" this possibility? There is a difference between knowing this was a possibility and doing something stupid to address it.

Avoiding Russians as a policy is dumb if the Russian is the clearcut BPA, especially in later rounds. I addressed this issue in another thread. It's fine to move a Russian down your list due to "the Russian factor" but not picking a player who you think is the clearcut BPA because he's Russian is dumb. In the 2010 draft, the Canucks (in the rumored draft board reveal) apparently had Kuznetsov higher than Tinordi and Bennett. But somehow, Gillis only placed Tinordi and Bennett's availability as the condition for giving up the 1st that year for Ballard. Do you think drafting Kuznetsov would have been better and giving the 2011 pick to Florida or trading the pick to Florida and drafting Jensen the next year?

And not that it should matter, but had the team had a Russian or two on the team (you know diversity), Tryamkin might have felt more at home.

I don't see how this is bennings fault, this is coaching + trammers ego.

It's a symptom of poor communication, poor leadership, poor direction from the top on down in the organization. You can't just put it on coaching when the GM and president are so involved day to day presumably talking to players etc. Does Tryamkin care about only getting 16:44 of icetime on average IF he is playing out of the gate? If they didn't try to send him down? If they didn't play clearly worse players ahead of him? No idea but it is likely something a bit more nuanced than "icetime". They knew he wasn't happy from the get go with not being in the lineup. They had all sorts of time to address the issue and they clearly didn't. That is on more people than the coaching staff.

Sure is amazing how quick that supposed great depth on the blueline can turn to crap.

Also goes to show that just because you may find a decent draft pick if you can't do other things right such gains can be eliminated pretty damn quick.

How are these guys still employed?

It says he's a RFA for the 2017-18 season. So do we retain his rights if he decides to return one day?

I don't like how management handled this situation.
Having said that, Tryamkin was told last spring his conditioning would have to improve significantly if he wanted to be an NHL regular.
He showed up at training camp in subpar shape, an appalling situation for a 22 year-old trying to make the NHL.
Tryamkin has to accept at least part of the blame for his lack of ice time. When a guy looks totally gassed after 45 seconds on the ice, it is tough to trust him with more ice time.

Management agreed to the KHL clause in his contract, surely they must have known about the risk in that..but we are talking about Benning tho. Watch Benning try to slide a 2nd round pick to Vegas to keep them from claiming Sbisa if he is exposed.

Sbisa is picked, we suffer injuries to 3 of our top 6 dmen again, and watch as Subban doesn't skate a single game for the Canucks

Talk about a spoiled piece of crap player.
Shows up out of shape and the Canucks bend over backwards to make him happy.
He doesn't have to spend a minute in the AHL...

Bolts for the KHL because he's unhappy.
What that translates to is 'oh crap, they are all going to expect me to train and come to camp in good shape; screw that, I'm just going to stay in Russia.'

But, yes, it's easier to just go with Bennings fault. Or Willie's fault. Or even Lindens fault....but it's somehow definitely not Tryamkin fault.

Yes and no. I understand conditioning needs to be top notch and he needed to take some responsibility in that. However, even being poorly conditioned he was still among the top 6 out of the gate in terms of effectiveness. He may have been huffing and puffing but he was still better than others and I think that should matter. Especially with a guy who likely didn't have the best guidance on these things as he progressed through hockey. I'd be much more forgiving about that in his case than say a Virtanen who has been provided the guidance (and everyday guidance in the summer).

No one said Trymakin doesn't have some responsibility but it is most definitely a failure of management and coaching staff as well. It doesn't have to be one or the other. Blame can be spread around.

This is a management crew that was talking about using the (supposed) depth on the blueline to address other needs. Talked about how excited they were for the youth on the blueline including Tryamkin. And this was since the season ended. And the player bolts immediately. It was yet another mis-read by this crew.

At this point the blueline depth is this:

Tanev
Edler
Stecher
Hutton
Sbisa
Gudbranson
Biega
Subban
Juolevi

Given a good chunk of those guys are playing above where they should be that is absolutely brutal. If Hutton and Stecher can't take steps forward this team is in big big big trouble for years on the back end. Even if they do they will be in trouble in the next couple of years.
