Player Discussion: Nikita Kucherov - Part 3

There will be precisely seven players to have won more Art Rosses than Kucherov as he gets his third (Lafleur and Bobby Hull also have 3). It's no doubt an incredible feat when your career coexists with one of the greatest players of all time in McDavid, and other very strong competition in Draisaitl and MacKinnon.

I think a lot of people who Kucherov has pissed off during the years are in for some unpleasant discussions when it's eventually time to rank his career all time.

Keep in mind...

...this all started when Yzerman called Kucherov fat.

NHL Scoring Leaders 2024-2025 tracks game winning assists, but doesn't break them down in terms of primary/secondary.
Thanks, this is interesting:

Kuch is 9th in GWA (12). McDavid and MacKinnon are tied 2nd (16). McDavid is super clutch with his assists actually: He‘s by far 1st in OT assists with 9 (2nd place has 4) in like 10-15 fewer games played than the competition.

Kuch is tied with MacK at 4th place in GWP though and is tied 3rd in GWG (2 behind Drai). Kuch also comfortably leads the league in A/60 and P/60.

I f***ing hope he reaches 130 with these 3 games left. Minimum injury risk as well, sucks that the last couple of games were mediocre for his standards. The cup is all that matters anyways even with the Ross locked up, so no biggie.

I honestly think Kuch could consistently produce 3 to 4 or maybe even 5pt nights easily. I know off nights are always expected, but he really is a point production monster akin to Gretzky and it's not even close. This may be hot take, but the 144pt season was not his peak and was more like his prime. If we win the cup this year, I'm still standing by my prediction of 170pts next season.

I wonder if he will even be a Hart finalist? Mackinnon, Draisaitl and Hellebuyck is my guess. It’s a joke of an award that gets decided based on bullshit narratives months before the season even ends.
He won't even be a finalist. It's easily going to be Helle and Drai, rightfully so, with MacKinnon because he's Canadian and a center. I don't see Kuch being a finalist, let alone having enough pull to win it.

I don't think McKinnon will be a finalist this year either. Colorado fans seem to think Makar would be a better finalist.

Feeling more and more like a year for a goalie to take it home.

Honestly, as great as Kuch has been, it's not a robbery or a snub. The rest of the team has been a lot better. If he gets nominated this year, it only highlights how bad last year was. He put the team on his shoulders in a very rare way last year.

Google AI just informed me that only 4 players in history have recorded three straight 80 assist seasons: Gretzky, Orr, Coffey, and Ric Flair.

Do you get an assist in wrestling tag-team matches when it's the other guy on your team that gets the pin?

Kuch also has 9 GWGs to Mac's 5. Does anyone track game winning primary assists?
Every stat they could wrench out in McKinnon's favor, in any conceivable way, got used last year.

Stat: Kucherov has FIFTY MORE POINTS than TB's second in points.

Counter-stat: yeah but but but if you look 6 guys deep, TB's 6th best scorer has 4 more points than Colorado's 6th best scorer... so... you know...Hart

That was truly the stupidest argument I've ever read here. So MacKinnon played like every second with two other arguably top 10 players in the world plus one of the best defensive D in the league and one out of Drouin, Nichushkin… and he was the MVP because Tampa had more mediocre players in their bottom 6. Crazy stuff, really.
