Nikita Kucherov Or Brett Hull?

Something tells me if Crosby and Ovechkin were both not top picks and Crosby didn't have the pre-draft hype a lot more people would say Ovechkin was better due to the goal record. Perception matters.

Hard to say but often on teams at any level in hockey we don't say automatically the guy who scores the most goals is the best player, if anything deference is given to most points more often right?

But I guess it depends on what level of hockey knowledge the "most people" you are talking about but goals isn't exactly like Home runs in baseball either just to use another example where one stat is often correlated with greatness and sometimes over stated.

I mean just look at this thread the greater goalscorer is losing.

Reason I say that is in this case the better goal scorer is winning and makes me wonder if Ovechkin and Crosby were picked in non-premium draft positions if they would treat Ovechkin's goal scoring like the do Hull's in this thread.

I think it's more a case of Kuch having the superior overall counting numbers peak/prime and playoff post seasons more than anything else.

Because the best playoff winger of the 2000s is him.

Not Kucherov.

More rings on his fingers, more game winning goals in the playoffs, and ended series on more then one occasion including a Cup.

Not that Kuch can't over take him, but right now it's Kane.

Kucherov has already passed him.

Remove Kane’s best regular season, which is the year he won his hardware, and he has no individual hardware other than a Calder. There’s not even an additional top 5 Hart finish to his name.

Remove Kucherov’s best regular season, which is actually the year he didn’t win the Hart and Lindsay, but still won an Art Ross, and he has a Hart, Lindsay, and Art Ross to his name, as well as leading the league in assists.

And if you think I’m being dodgy there, feel free to remove 2018-2019 as his best. He still has another Art Ross, a runner up to the Hart, a 100 assist season which was a share of the league lead.

A few extra game winning playoff goals and an extra team accolade doesn’t outweigh Kucherov’s accomplishments and his firm hold he has on being one of the five best players in the world for eight years running.

Ya that was confusing to me as well but I guess you looked now.

I think Kuch will be ahead when it's all said and done and probably is now but it's mostly counting stats that people are suing here and it's a gut reaction call.

They are completely different players but Kucherov is a better player. A guy that can create much more overall offense will always be better then a player that is primarily a goal scorer. Kucherov may not have as memorable an overall career as Hull though so maybe Brett Hull's all time career is better because he was so uniquely great at a specific aspect of hockey. I guess it depends on how you look at it.

As someone who was nominated for Hart 3 years in a row (and won it once) with Gretzky, Lemieux, Roy, Yzerman, Messier still in their prime, Brett Hull deserves way more respect.

So does Andreychuk. Shouldn't be compared to Brett, but at least spell the guys name right in the hot take.
