part of winning a cup is trial and error. Hardly no GM in the history of the game has won off of their original vision. Part of what makes some GM's so successful is their ability to adapt. This is just another example of Kyle doing so. I can understand why people may not agree with his philosophy on how a team should be built, but I don't understand how people can look at his willingness to go back against his original vision as a bad thing. So many times we have seen GM's live and die by "their guys".

it takes a man to be big enough to admit his mistakes, smart enough to profit from them, and strong enough to correct them. This may be the preamble to something just like that.

And if you need another example:

Mistake: Signing Nick Ritchie
Problem: Money tied up to non-performing player left vacancies on the back end
Correction: Move Ritchie + pick for Lybushkin

Zero ego involved, just on the fly problem solving. Not many GM's are that willing to contradict themselves. And before anyone goes on to say "well he shouldn't need to correct himself if he didn't make the mistake in the first place", as if they weren't happy with the signing of a Stanley Cup player who plays with jam. Not even mentioning the countless signings he does well with.

Again, I have no problem with people having different viewpoints on Kyle vs. the one I have. I just feel like comments like yours are just lazy attempts to throw shade at a person you don't like. I just don't understand how waiving NAK can be viewed as a negative.
You are seeing it in a vacuum and i’m seeing it as a body of work. That’s the fundamental difference.

Experiment that didn't work out. I'd hope you find his niche as an energy guy in the bottom six, wasn't the case. No real harm. You won't ever be able to find successful reclamation projects without gambling. Sometimes gamble lose unfortunately

Better to move on earlier give the guy a chance to to hopefully get picked up by another team either via waivers or trade.

I don't see how he wasn't exactly as advertised. 21 hits in 6 games.
Honestly, hits can be a deceiving statistic. It's fine and dandy that he finished his checks. I do appreciate that. But it can also mean he is playing without the puck a lot.

I honestly just felt like his skill level was borderline good enough to be in the NHL. Which is why he was waived likely last season as well. He has stone hands, and really doesn't move the needle in either direction. He is no less/more effective then Simmonds and Clifford IMO. I definitely was not expecting massive point totals, but I found a lot of his shifts were far too pedestrian from what I was expecting.

I honestly think he can be better. I think maybe in a different system that relies more on a strong F1 vs possession through neutral/offensive ice. Or maybe he just needs a wakeup call. Just cuz you have a ring doesn't mean your spot in the lineup is secured. IMO he has been the weakest player in that 4th line rotation thus far, so this was a fair outcome.

I'm hoping he clears personally, because I do have hope for him upon an eventual return. But if he gets claimed, all the best to ya Nick, I won't lose any sleep either way

Pretty confident that when I referenced another occurrence of when when Kyle contradicted his own acquisition by trading them months later (ie. signing Ritchie) that is almost by definition not looking at this example in a vacuum. I am doing the exact opposite actually. I am looking at the entire body of work, that admittedly has had poor signings/trades, but also looking at all resolutions that have come from them as well.

What do you mean? What are you not sure about?

that is a "cap space" that is wasted on a player including a contract spot that could have been used somewhere else.

If he doesn't get claimed; eventhough buried in the minors his contract still counts towards the max allowed and some of his cap will also be on the cap space (around 125K).

Yea I have no idea why the team felt the urge to sign him and ignored Tyler Motte who was pretty solid in Vancouver, and then again in New York and Ottawa signed him fairly late in the offseason.

Both Zach Aston Reese and Aube-Kubel were very underwhelming moves.

Pro scouts don't cost any cap space or contract numbers so how about carefully hiring some good scouts to reduce all the mistakes they've made evaluating players they acquire and players they've mistakenly traded away that have found success with their new teams?

Contracts up to 1.25 mil are fully buried during the 2022-23 season

Identify the mistake you've made, and correct it.

It's telling that they'd rather waive NAK than send Robertson/Holmberg down. It's a win-win for the Leafs:

*He gets claimed, freeing up a contract slot
*He gets sent down to the AHL, freeing up mostly all of his cap hit
*He clears, remains on the NHL roster, and uses this as motivation to start his season.

Aston-Reese has looked pretty good as of late, and he can be used on the PK.
