I never would've figured Nick Suzuki would be a top point producer. I don't know why but he seemed like a more nimble Plekanec rather than a not-so-poor-man's Datsyuk. Really looking forward to seeing his development. God damn we're lucky that our rebuild started with this pillar already in hand.
When he was starting off Scouts were giving the Bergeron comparison and people thought that was a stretch. As time goes on it’s looking more and more like it

I felt like he’d be a first line center. He’s exceeding what I thought he’d be. Still don’t see superstar there but I could turn out to be wrong.

A Plekanec kinda 1C or a Giroux+ kinda 1C

I admit I never saw the latter

Google Dryden in 71.

You’re not giving him nearly his due. And we weren’t able to win cups with that roster when he wasn’t with the team.
I remember '71, great year. That was height of his career. Frank Mahovlich trade helped as did coaching change. Claude Ruel had lost the dressing room. Dryden good goalie but aided by team in front of him. That year Habs had outstanding defense. JC Tremblay had career year in '71. Other than Orr he was best D in game. Lapoints, Lapierrere both in hall of fame. In '72 he was rather oridnary in playoffs. '75 also. In '73 won a cup but that was unreal team. Dryden was so-so in playoffs '73. In '74 of course he sat out. From '76-79, Red light Racicot could have won those cups. International Dryden was rather average goalie

Let’s move on from Dryden. As I mentioned earlier I’ve derailed this thread enough on that front.

It's actually ridiculous how good Suzuki is, and how better than everyone is on the team he is, including Caufield.

What a move by the Maestro.

Suzuki is better than Koivu, even when Saku was in his prime.

Plek was never a legit number one. Suzuki will be.

Correction: he already is.

In certain spots of his career, I thought of plekanec as a 1C, particularly under Martin. He played alot, he played all aspects. He was a pain to play against, and put up 70 points when the next closest guy had 59.

But sometimes, when people say 1C, they mean like a top 10 C even if there are 30 teams. I take the definition as the latter.

Even so, at his best Plekanec wasnt far off the top 15, if not inside. From 07-08 to 14-15 he was 17th in raw scoring for centers.

Suzuki is 13th right now.

Give Caufield two years… big difference in terms of career stage at this point in their careers.

Yeah Caufield can dangle he could be somwhat what Kaprizov is now in a few years just a more of a goal scoring version of Kaprizov.
I’m convinced he’ll be a 50 goal guy multiple times in his career.

As for Suzuki, really happy with his game. He’s also fallen off a little but that’s okay. He’s played really well so far this year.

I agree with you. He was kind of underappreciated in general.

Wisniewski came over to the Habs in 10-11, and I heard him on a podcast about a year ago and someone asked him about his time with the Habs. Wisniewski immediately started talking about pleky as a guy he had no idea how good he was until he came over.... But he went out of his way to mention him.

Then he also told him to get rid of his turtleneck because he was pissing other teams off in a bad way :p

To be honest, I never imagined that Suzuki would be a PPG.

I saw him more as a good 2C.

I always knew he had an accurate shot but it was his speed that always bothered me.

Now I watch him , and I love how he controls the game .... When Suzuki has the puck, the game is put on pause...always trying to find the best option.
