Agreed - with no Tuytin & Murray, team needs a veteran D to come in and fill 1 spot.
Yep.... both those guys are the best shutdown D we have and they are out...

Nick Schultz is solid. -11 on the oilers isn't bad. Lol
Actually Schultz has been bad even for the Oilers. I follow their blogs and he's third pair bordering on out of the top-6. There's a chance Schultz could turn his game around, but as is Golo is easily a better player. But Richards like his vets...
That's the key though. Richards won't play Goloubef or Erixon. He'd rather play Johnson 30+ minutes.
With Tyutin out, who is Johnson's partner? Who pairs regularly with the other two vets on defense, Wiz and Niki6? Who is on a line with Horton? Isn't Richards icing one of the youngest teams in the league? Yet, "Richards likes his vets..."
I don't understand the obsession with Goloubef and Erixon.
Fair enough that Richards has trusted the youth a lot. But I stand by my assessment that Golo and Erixon are easily better than Nick Schultz.

They well may be, but I have no way of knowing that, since I have seen little or nothing of them! On what is your assessment based? Did you like what you saw in camp? Have you seen something of them in Springfield? From what does your certainty arise? I just don't get it.
Camp? Golo has played in 15 or so NHL games and Erixon in 50. Just last night we watched Golo, remember? He was solid positionally and made good passes, as usual.
Yes, I remember last night, my impression was much better of Sevard and Prout. I'm not implying that Goloubef and Erixon do not have potential, I just don't see where they have demonstrated so much to sustain a constant drumbeat for their insertion into the lineup.
This has wandered way off topic, so I'll drop it.
Look for a semi-reliable bottom pairing d-man. Forces a lot of plays through players, and is known to giveaway the puck A LOT when facing anyone above the 3rd line.
Decent on the PK, sometimes. Yes, only sometimes.
Tl;Dr - Can handle the 6th man role, but don't expect much.
Veteran presence with some playoff experience. He's a 6/7 guy when CBJ is healthy and the asset we gave up means little. Simply a depth move that could help settle our back end a little in the short term. I hope so anyway.
I think he'll need to step up his game to be a 6/7 for us. Edmonton fans didn't think he was good enough to be their 6/7.
I wouldn't worry too much about what Edmonton fans think. I'll wait until I see him play with our team.
Wild fan here so have not seen him with Edmonton...
Schultz was a good 3/4th mobile defenseman prior to his last year with the Wild. He closed gaps fairly well, was good at blocking shots, and had a good stick in lanes. He never developed any offense or any ability to handle the puck since he came up with the Wild under Lemaire. If he still has his mobility and plays in a more structured system than Edmonton, I think he will be a fine pickup for the third pairing and PK considering you only gave up a 5th round pick.
