I'd like more than a one game look with Matthews/Marner, but he was fine last night.

I think he will quickly learn if he just drives the net good things will happen.

Last night did also prove to me that you can put basically any player in the NHL beside Matthews/Marner and they will still get chances.

If Matthews shoots as much as he did last night and shoots his career average shooting percentage, he is over a goal per game... that line (specifically Matthews/Marner) were really good last night.

Is this guy playing tonight? No joke, haven't noticed. I didn't know a thing about Ritchie, Bunting, Kampf or Kase coming into the season and it seems pretty clear to me we picked up two great low budget guys (Bunting and Kampf) and two placeholders.
Bunting and Kampf looks like were solid pickups to me too .. Kase is a total and complete waste of space and he will be gone by XMAS or when Mik comes back .. Ritchie is type who gets hot and scores 5 in 3 games but having him on bench helps team play bigger and he winded a couple rangers D last night .. JT and Mitch are somewhat more concerning as they both are slowing down even from last year

Mitch is slowing down? as in pace? skating? I see that with JT but not Mitch.

Mitch has slowed down in his straight line foot speed this year from last year .. testing in camp .. but his edges and cuts are still fine in down low games he plays in both ends of ice

Okay but that must be minor...hardly noticeable very different with JT because it's all facets of the game.
Could be but heard from 2 different people who would know .. i think it will get public consumption once Mitch starts to get his apples again .. something like Mitch has tried to bulk up this summer

He isn’t the biggest issue with the top line. If Marner was so damn magic with the puck why can’t he create a single scoring chance for Ritchie? Once he muffs a wide open tap in like Hyman did every other game you can crap on him than.
Marner is not without blame. He needs to get going. But Ritchie only has 4 shots in 4 games and 0 points. He is as slow as shit rolling up hill and coasts a lot, which is why a lot of Bruins fans didn't like him. I remember at least one play last night where he could have checked his man if he had been moving his feet to get into position but instead he was coasting and couldn't catch him and presented a decent scoring opportunity for NY. Bunting by comparison is supposed to play the same role as Ritchie and works his bag off and has 3 pts and 14 shots to show for it in 4 games.

Marner made two passes last night that should have been goals. Nylander on PP and matthews on OT

You think even McDavid makes passes like that every game ?

He's fine. Our top guns are fine. They are getting their chances

You should worry about Muzzins decline and Holls inability to stay in NHL

I am worried about those things. Tavares and Marner still need to produce. Marner is at least getting chances though. My post was about Ritchie's effort level and comparing it to Bunting. I dont think Ritchie has been the biggest problem as this thread title would suggest but him having a reputation of inconsistencies with his effort level and showing that already 4 games in and only having 4 shots is concerning for me considering this team has a reputation of inconsistent effort levels and piss poor playoff results and this guy was brought in to make contributions but is only adding to those issues.

What i want to see is him playing like Bunting as most of this team should. Thats what we saw in the playoffs from the lightning was 100% effort and playing with fire from everyone in the lineup whether it was Coleman, Goodrow or superstars like Point and Kucherov.

This guy is everything he was advertised to be and more - a complete ghost who is too slow and disengaged to have any meaningful impact. When you see Bunting being a high impact, physical player and this guy never near the puck or bodying people on the forecheck/front of net, you can't help but hate this player.

He will slide down the line up just like vesey last year. Ritchie has provided zero value so far.

He belongs nowhere near the top 6

I'm not writing him off yet. Give him at least 5 games to see if he clicks with the top line.

I hope Ritchie gets the memo. He is perfectly sized to play a Tim Kerr kind of role in front of the net

Most jumping on this guy when in fact Kase has also done SQUAT all pre season and in 2 games give them a few more games, they are on a new team with new linemates we could also pick at JT at 11 mill right now who has not looked anywhere near dynamic, we could also pick at Kerfoot yea he got a goal but he hasn't knocked anybodies socks off and is average so far, also Engvall yea a goal but a 6ft 5 soft player who refuses to hit and had some give aways as well, but moral is give all these a little time to see if they can ramp it up before passing total judgement.

Too many 0's already beside this guy's name.

2 shots on goal in 2 games? 0 shots on goal in the game against the Habs.

Played over 13 min a night on the top line.

Who's more deserving in the top line: Kase, Bunting, Kerfoot, and even Kampf.

He's in a race for last place with Simmonds and Amadio.

Please don't come in this thread to tell me that "TOR has only played two games."

Sorry Nick. You are getting demoted soon

You only have 1 chance at 1st impressions.

Get better. Much better. Some jobs are on the line here. So is your career!

go YouTube Nick Ritchie. He’s not here to fill the net - just create room for those that do.

In an 82 game marathon you need players like him.

Kase missed a lot of time with injuries. Rarely does a player come back and light it up. If he can stay healthy he’ll be a contributor.

Ritchie needs to go to the net tip tap ins like Bunting.

Didn’t want Ritchie, was surprised how many people were excited when he signed.

Just doesn’t have the IQ to keep up with Matthews and Marner, and doesn’t have Hymans work ethic to make up for that.

I’d go:
Bunting - Matthews - Marner
Kerfoot - Tavares - Nylander
Ritchie - Kampf - Kase

That's not a bad idea

I don't know what to say? Most hockey players assigned to the top line are expected to score.

Ritchie is just a bad fit. He is not able to handle M & M's creativity/edge work. He has to be a 3rd option or else they're playing a man disadvantage. Create space? How do you do that when you're behind the play?
