Nick Ritchie discussion - clears waivers

Thing is, Marner and Matthews don't (or at least shouldn't) need another wheel to help them drive that lines play. They had Thornton for plenty of 5v5 minutes and each guy had monster seasons.

Ritchie just needs to be a big bodied guy to pick up their garbage in front of the net to get some goals. At the very least deserves to see how he fairs in that role for more than a few games now that Matthews is back to playing

If he can stay healthy, he will play much much better. I think he has juice but 5 concussions can play a role in tentativeness
 
Ritchie will start to produce. We saw that he does have nice hands in and around the net. The issue is that is where he should be or go to every time his linemates have the puck. If he gets to that point, the stats will start coming in.

Keep in mind he hasnt exactly had steady linemates the first few games. Now that Matthews is back things will settle and get better. Still think he can get close to 20 goals this season playing with Matthews or Tavares and Marner or Nylander.

Ritchie has had one game with Matthews, who also accomplished nothing.
I'm thinking we should probably give him two like we give everyone else before we write them off.
 
So, Mitch has done nothing and Matthews has been out all of training camp and has gotten into 1 game and we are in a tizzy on Ritchie?

Dude makes $2.5 million. If he can score occasional garbage goal, forecheck, and keep guys hands off of Marner and Matthews, he’s a frigging steal.

Let’s focus on what we are going to do about Rielly. That’s what’s keeping me up.

Actually it has been 354 games and this is his 3rd team. There are people who actually watch other teams and he has been pretty useless his whole career up until now and there really haven’t been many moments to think that he has some sort of untapped potential. It might be possible but I would bet that he isn’t going to be anything better than what we are seeing right now.

Lol. You, with your level headed, rational thinking. There's no place for that here. We're 4 games in already. Time to pack it in for another season and it's all because we spent 2.5m on on Ritchie.

He got benched tonight.

Do you need to see more of him on the top line? I'm good. I know what he is.
